In this award-winning autobiographical portrait, legendary jazz pianist Oscar Peterson narrates his story, from his beginnings in smoke-filled Montreal clubs to hallmark performances with jazz greats. Concert footage includes an unforgettable combo -- Nat King Cole with Jazz at the Philharmonic and the Oscar Peterson Trio Wall reunion. Quincy Jones, Ella Fitzgerald and Dizzy Gillespie are interviewed, among others.

Hans is the name of the film's driving force and central character, an arrogant and fascinating firebrand who meddles in other people's lives with great energy. His son Jesper can only escape him by getting drunk. This is not a smart move when you are a firefighter at the station where your gruff father is the boss. Jesper is kicked out of his job and his home. Shortly afterwards, the only person who loves Hans patiently and unconditionally dies: his mother, whom he calls the Angel. Hans is guilty, he falls apart, tries to kill himself, but ends up blind – and alone.

Featuring fully restored black and white footage and remixed audio in 5.1 and DTS, this program presents a stunning performance from one of the most versatile jazz singers of all time. Oscar Peterson is accompanied by the stellar duo of bassist Ray Brown and drummer Ed Thigpen for each concert performance. This is the classic Oscar Peterson Trio, considered by many to be the best Oscar Peterson Band ever. Oscar and the trio collaborate with trumpeters Clark Terry (Finland'65) and Roy Eldridge (Sweden'63) and re-create some of the excitement and fun of the Jazz at the Philharmonic (JATP) tours. Among the many highlights in this collection are the Oscar and vocalist-trumpeter Clark Terry collaboration on the ever-popular Mumbles ,and for the first time on commercial video, an Oscar Peterson Trio rendition of Tonight from his award-winning West Side Story album.

Filmed for the BBC show "Jazz 625," this live concert showcases the remarkable technique of jazz pianist Oscar Peterson and his trio (including bassist Ray Brown and drummer Ed Thigpen), capturing the group at their peak. The nine-song set includes tunes such as "Yours Is My Heart Alone," Bill Evans's "Waltz for Debby" and "My One and Only Love."
