'Calamity,' having fallen into money, receives a letter purporting to be from two long lost cousins, who were really Los Angeles confidence men. With her burro she goes to Los Angeles. After many adventures, she succeeds in getting her burro into the Pullman, and is met at the great amusement park, Venice, by the confidence men.

Tea is served during an afternoon visit of Sybil with her friend Mabel Brown. Sybil begs Mabel to tell her fortune from the tea leaves in her cup. Walter, Mabel's older brother, is in love with Sybil. Mabel complies, and at the same time puts in a good word for Walter. She tells Sybil that she will cross the water, come into possession of a fortune and marry a man with a title. This is the way her fortune came true: Mabel's little brother hides his little clay pig bank with its savings at the foot of a tree on the opposite side of a brook in a nearby wood.

Virginia Jameson, a girl of lovely disposition, is wooed by a man much older than herself whom she very much dislikes, but who stands very high in the favor of her parents. She might have married another man had not fate decreed otherwise. She meets and accidentally escapes the man she could have loved and would have married; she stooped to tie her shoe-strings, diverting her attention from him. Had their eyes met, both their lives would have been different. Leroy Farley, the man favored by her parents, prevails and she marries him. Her life is unhappy, notwithstanding his great riches and social prominence.

A wealthy but weary Charles Morris visits a friend in the country where he meets two young women: the mercenary Hilda and the sweet Dorothy. Betty subtly steers Charles towards Dorothy. When Hilda attempts to capture Charles's affection, Betty orchestrates a situation where Charles sees Hilda with her other suitor, Mr. Bennett, effectively eliminating Hilda's chances. Charles and Dorothy eventually fall in love and become engaged.

A short comic film in which the Count has found a bride, namely Mr. Krapaan’s extravagant daughter. A tramp then steals his clothes, and goes to the wedding in the Count’s place. Krapaan wants his extravagant daughter to marry Count De Bluffe, whom he believes to be wealthy. When De Bluffe is taking a bath, his clothes are stolen by a tramp. The tramp then pretends to the Krapaan family that he is the Count, but is unmasked by the real De Bluffe. But when the tramp, peeking through the window, sees that the bride is actually ugly and bald, he is glad that he is off the hook. After the wedding, the tramp puts on the bride’s wig, which causes De Bluffe to experience great regret.

Marie, a self-dependent girl, compromises herself by associating with Petro Maquin. She asks him to keep his promise to marry her. He ignores her and leaves the village to join a band of wreckers. The gossips circulate scandal about her, bringing reproach upon her name.

A kingdom's ascending heir, marked for assassination, switches identities with a lookalike, who takes his place at the coronation. When the real king is kidnapped, his followers try to find him, while the stand-in falls in love with the king's intended bride, the beautiful Princess Flavia.

The wealthy old bachelor returned to his home after a visit to his club, and found waiting him news that his time on earth was pitifully brief. He had money to pay for the best of medical attention, but doctors could not save him. For the first time it struck the old millionaire that no man or woman would care whether he lived or died. Essentially selfish, he had never made friends.

Miss Taku Takagi is a girl who sacrifices her life that the Mikado's army may get plans of a Russian fort. Her husband had been detailed to get the plans; but drunk at the critical moment she takes his place. A sentry wounds her; but she manages not only to escape, but to delay the search long enough for her husband to get away with the papers.
