Scianel is a young girl from the ZEN (a public housing project neighborhood) in the city of Palermo an area on the outskirts of Palermo, who is not able to give a name or a form to her diversity. She knows she's "weird" but hasn't understood to what extent yet. When, during a workshop, she discovers her talent for painting, her world changes: what she draws comes to life, it develops a soul. In 1920s Bagheria, Giuseppe 'Peppino' Torrenuova works as a shepherd to financially help his poor family. Over the next fifty years, Giuseppe's life, as well as the life of the village, is observed. Peppe goes back home to retrieve, from the seabed, the breath of life (sciatu meo) that sustains his vitality, as well as his memory of an eternal love.
