Hungary, 1950s. Istvánka is a sensitive little boy, longing for a role model and friendship, whose father died in the war before he was born. Before school starts, his mother takes him from the countryside to the capital. One day, he meets Lacy Márity, a 21-year-old big boy from Budakeszi, who from then on not only goes to play football with him, but also answers his most secret questions. He becomes his friend. Istvánka then becomes more tolerant of the local children's digs and the often incomprehensible behaviour of the adults. But the 1956 revolution intervenes. Laci Márity takes the lead in the rebellion.

Stephen, living in a troubled family, breaks into a grocery store and wreaks vandalism. He is sent to a reform school. Later he works in a cleaning brigade and accidentally meets József Draskóczi, who denounced him. Draskóczi lives in an unloving, troubled atmosphere with his barren daughter and cynical son-in-law, ascetic about his youthful communist beliefs. He feels responsible for Istvan's fate, offering him a human voice and love. Despite his daughter's hysterical jealousy, he sends Istvan to school and then, through his previous connections, provides him with an apartment...

Sanyi is the driver of a co-op bus and lives in tenancy with his wife and son. In order to get along he buys the auctioned truck of the co-op and becomes a transportation entrepreneur. First everything goes well, they start a construction.

This film describes the narrator's childhood, the years before and after the Hungarian Soviet Republic, in a burlesque and fabulous style and with the humour of a child's fantasy.

The unskilled, jack-of-all-trades András and his wife, Éva are put in jail for serial work-place thefts, -committed in order to try to ensure a normal living standard for his family - and for aggravated assault committed for self-defence, respectively. Their two small children are put in state care, then given to foster parents. András, still in prison, commits everything to help the released Éva get hold of an apartment and get their children back so that when he will have served his term the family could be together again.

Péter begins to correspond with the unknown Ági living in Munich while he is spending his military service. After the service he goes to Munich and at the address given by Ági he finds four nice old women who put him up. He cannot find Ági, however.

It is in a difficult and chauvinistic world that they end up finding Alberto who lives with Júlia on a hill somewhere in the Alentejo. Without informing that Maria is their daughter, they try little by little to know why she abandoned her. When they know the reasons, they both plan revenge ... and execute it.

Their pursuit of freedom quickly unravels as they face the grim realities of industrial life, a transition compounded by Zsuzsa's unplanned pregnancy and Jutka's own search for stability in a harsh environment.

Ogu, a Turkish boy, loves fast motorcycles and his classmate Alexa. Unfortunately for him, when he whistles enthusiastically for Alexa, he accidentally alerts two robbers. Now he himself is suspected of belonging to the gang of thieves. It takes Ogu and his friends some effort to prove his innocence and catch the real robbers.

Marci, an impertinent crook buries his drunk parents and chooses to wander instead of becoming an apprentice.

The subject-matter of this comedy is age-old: that of the schizophrenic soul. Papa would have liked boy twins years ago, but her wife gave birth to a single child weighing six kilograms. He would like to dampen his feeling of emptiness by having the boy registered both as Péter and Pál.

Juli is a freelance photographer in her late 20’s, scrambling to make some money and sort out her private life. Most of the time she lives with her boyfriend, a student named Csaba, in a rented room. Her much-loved 7-year-old son, Peti, lives in an apartment with Juli’s mother.
