Kutumb was a popular daily Indian television drama telecast on Sony Entertainment Television. The show was aired on October 29, 2001 and went off air on February 7, 2003. The show had two seasons, however, the seasons plot were not inter-related at all, more like two series. However, both series revolve around principal characters of Pratham and Gauri, and their love and "Kutumb"

The year is 1938, and Mahatma Gandhi's groundbreaking philosophies are sweeping across India, but 8-year-old Chuyia, newly widowed, must go to live with other outcast widows on an ashram. Her presence transforms the ashram as she befriends two of her compatriots.

Village bred farmer, brave, and honest, Dharamchand alias Dharma is thrilled when his wife, Radha, gives birth to a baby boy, who they decide to call Raju. Dharma comes to the rescue of Ajit, Suresh, and Sujit, when they are being attacked by a tiger, and they graciously offer him a job in Bombay whenever he needs it. When the region experiences drought, Dharma, Radha, Raju and Dharma's sister, Laxmi, re-locate to Bombay, where Ajit makes Dharma the Manager of his warehouse. Dharma does his job diligently, but one day is arrested by the police for carrying on illegal activities. When in court, he tries to prove his innocence, but is disbelieved and is sentenced to 18 months in jail plus an additional six months for contempt of court. When he returns home, everything has changed. His wife and Raju are near destitution; Laxmi has been raped by Sujit and has killed herself.

Arjun, a hot headed but soft hearted man, always finds himself in situations that others take him as a bad person. His childhood teacher Masterji is the only person understands him & appreciates his good quality and Arjun follows his instruction/wishes completely. Arjun loves Aarti and wants to marry her but Aarti's father does not endorse this alliance and decides to get her marry to someone else. Arjun is agitated but Masterji calms him down and asks him to not disrupt this marriage, instead convince Aarti to marry the boy her father has chosen for her. Arjun follows what Masterji has asked him. Devastated Arjun finds love in Margret who he has been fighting with since she came to town. Now Margret's uncle and mother are against their marriage. This time Arjun is not lenient and does not even listen to Masterji. Arjun and Margret run away and commit suicide jumping down a mountain.

Raja (Dev Anand) has been abandoned by his biological mother at a very young age, and grows up with Master (Jeevan), a criminal don and card-sharp, who would like Raja to continue working with him on a commission basis. Raja learns all that could be learned about playing cards, quits work with Master, and starts work on his own. He succeeds considerably, and soon gets rich and wealthy. He falls in love with beautiful Chandra Gangaram (Zaheeda), and would like to marry her. But her father would like her to marry U.K. settled Ram Mehta(Sudhir), before Raja could do or say anything against this alliance, he is charged with the cold-blooded murder of Master. The climax in Raja's life is in the Court Room where he will find out about his past, and about his parents - while he awaits the outcome of the trial. The life of an impoverished male undergoes drastic changes after he gets his siblings married.

Orphaned at a young age, Neetu Singh lives a wealthy lifestyle in Raigadh in a palace which is presided over by her aunt, Rani Maa, and Neetu's paternal uncle, Rajan Singh. She travels and lives for a few years in Switzerland, then returns back to Bombay, India, and has a run-in with some slum-dwellers near Juhu. A young man gets jailed for killing a woman who seduces him. When he gets released, he tries to stop his employer's son from committing the same kind of crime he did.

A newly-wed woman is met with abuse in her new house

Due to disagreements in the King's household, his wife and son decide to move away from his kingdom. Years later, the King passes away and the palace decides to locate the Prince, so that he can claim his rightful place on the throne. They locate three young men, all claiming to be the prince. The Palace officials put them to the test, and one by one, all of them pass various tests imposed on them, leaving the officials in a quandary, as to who the real prince is between these three young men.
