The music of Imre Kálmán has no equal in operetta for its festivity, “elegance”, and the refinement of melodics and orchestration.

Feature film version of the 1971 series. On the eve of the 18th century, County Vicecomes Görgey Pál broods alone in his manor while the town of Leutschau celebrates New Year’s with lead‐casting omens and a disastrous hunt that sparks a bitter feud. As Görgey fights for his honor and life, and the townspeople defend their Saxon privileges, their mutual blind ambition prevents them from seeing the rising light of Rákóczi’s coming rebellion.

The hero of the film, János Kiss, a Kossuth Prize-winning cylindersmith, is about to be visited by an old Italian friend. Comrade Kubik from the Ministry of Heavy Industry, having assessed the Kisses' impossible living conditions, tries to transform them into a Westerner's home for one evening during the visit. This then becomes the source of a whole series of satirical situations during the evening, in order to recreate the Kisses' familiar, bleak home the next day.

Szása on his day off mends the old automobile of a young couple and goes shopping with his son. In the shop the saleswoman mistakes him to be a drunken customer of the other day and begins to offend him. Szása, for the sake of his son on the first place, wants to clear the misunderstanding up. King Tobiah, the ruler of the country of Dinom-danom, announces a pancake-making competition for the girls of the area. He is supposed to give his son to the one who makes the best pancakes. As it is in fairy tales: the enterprising girls all fail. Not so for Pigeon-eyed Ladybird, who wins the competition, but she doesn't want the prince... Meanwhile, Derelye, the evil chef who is destroying countries with his gang, is plundering the larder of the country of Dínom-dánom, but Prince Elias (Lajos Balázsovits) is determined to put an end to the wastefulness and thievery. He is aided by Csöröge, the loyal fool, and the pancake-making skills of Kökényeyűű Katica are of great help in the fight.

Csutak is just a pain in the neck, the little boy is even excluded from play by his mates. Vacation is spent lonely until one day he sneaks the woman haulier's old, shabby horse, a creature that would be better off in a slaughterhouse, out with himself. Possessing the animal is the key to the children's gang. They all try to find a place for the horse.

A young woman on board of a bus notices that her watch has been stolen. The ticket collector keeps everybody on board, and upon the advice of a traffic police, they drive directly to the nearest police station.

"But my class in Töhötöm Street could wait until I had finished my explanation even after ringing the bell! I bet my students on Töhötöm Street didn't confuse the corridor with the football field! Thank God for the "Töhötöm"... Aunt Joli, the young class teacher, often starts her speeches to the 6th grade class this way. She once says: "But the people of Töhötöm Street love music!" The 6.b's self-esteem can't take it any more, and they invite those "famous Dumpling Street kids" to a competition.

This sensitive and ironic film points up two girl-faces: Vera is happy, but cold, while Borika is tired, but warm-hearted.
