A young widow, an aging widower-returnee, and a priest from a bankrupt parish are struggling to come to terms with the post-war environment, complete with its prejudices, illusions, and unpleasant mentality. What follows is a romantic comedy set in rough landscape, about a woman who falls in love with a local priest. He is not blind to her love, but is unable to choose between the church and her, until the circumstances force him to make his choice.
In this comedy, Janko a thief and Vanja an author meet when Janko robs the house in which Vanja is writing his essay on cathedrals. In the ensuing brawl Janko steals the manuscript. A retrieval chase follows.
Janko's life seemed to be in order. He had a great job and was in a steady relationship with his comissioner's daughter, whom he decided to leave after he falls for a pickopocket named Nana. However, even that relationship can't seem to fullfill his desires, so he starts a steamy affair with Marta Štajner, the widow of wealthy wartime-era crime lord Dragutin Karl Štajner. Wanting to impress his new fling, Janko decides to abuse his position as a police officer and starts getting further into criminal territory, but, he quickly gets in way over his head.
Janko Labud, a young and cunning bank manager, comes to work in a small provincial bank, replacing his predecessor who commited suicide under mysterious circumstances. However, immediately after his arrival, he'll get roped into a series of complicated conspiracies orchestrated by the county prefect Anica Kralj.
The fisherman, an old sea dog, tries to catch great amberjacks in a whole new way: with a fishing net, although this fish is regularly caught by jigging.
February 1908. Unhappy with the education provided to him in Munich, Croatian artist Josip Račić moves to Paris, where he finds accomodation in a rather cheap hotel. There he meets the cabaret singer Mary and a slew of other strange individuals, creating a palette of experiances that he then transforms into unique paintings.
