1983 Lithuanian film
Lithuania in the near future. The land is full of rich immigrants. Rich Lithuanians that were scattered throughout the world return to Lithuania to spend their golden years in luxurious nursing homes; and the laws that govern life and death provide a feeling of security... The residents of the Garden of Eden look upon this "global theatre of life" with tearful smiles and great wisdom.
Early twentieth century. The future poet, the nurturer of lyrics of love, Julius Janonis, is maturing among the students of Šiauliai Gymnasium. The son of a poor peasant, sick with tuberculosis, spotted a classmate, Milda, from a wealthy family admiring his talent. Unfortunately, at a high society party held at Milda’s parents house, where Julius reads his poems, guests make fun of the poet. When World War I comes, Janonis is taken to Voronezh, to the Lithuanian diaspora.
Paris, 1955. Fraudster Georges de Valera, hiding from the police, with the help of a correspondent for the reactionary newspaper Sibilo, poses as Minister Dubov, who allegedly escaped from the Soviet Union. Sibilo's daughter explains to Georges the purpose of the planned action: to slander progressive journalists with the help of the false Dubov. De Valera, not wanting to become a participant in the provocation, goes into hiding. But instead they find another candidate for the role of Dubov...
