Police officer Aniskin lives with his family in a rural Russian village whose inhabitants admire his gentleness and wisdom. When an accordion is stolen from the local clubhouse, he begins to investigate.

Oleg Pronchatov, a young engineer at a logging company, is advocating the creation of a large timber industry complex on one of the northern rivers.

The screenplay is based on the short story of the same name by Vil Lipatov. It tells the story of a man with a difficult past who comes to a village in search of happiness, hoping to do good for others to the best of his abilities and talents.
