Professor Dr. Burkhardt is a much celebrated surgeon. Obsessed with his career, he is always available when an unexpected operation comes up. That his personal life is suffering because of this obsession is something the successful doctor doesn't notice. His wife Vera, who, after the death of their three year old son, is always alone anyway, feels increasingly neglected. And the love, which she apparently isn't able to get from her husband, she seeks from Dr. Groone, her husband's assistant.
Professor Schott, director of the Oberland Mountain Observatory, has discovered a new star, which he names "Nova Hercules." Working alongside him are Dr. Gerellis and Dr. Alvens, both vying for the affections of the new assistant, Dr. Aenne Bruck, while the professor's wife, unhappy in her marriage, is interested in Dr. Gerellis and therefore wants a divorce. Due to the emotional entanglements, disappointment, and jealousy, considerable tension arises at the observatory. Then Professor Schott is found dead—poisoned with cyanide. Initially, Gerellis is suspected of the murder, but a photograph of the newly discovered star takes an unexpected turn.
As the end of the Second World War approaches and the Soviet Red Army is advancing, a group of concentration camp inmates is helped to escape by a Polish doctor. They hide in a wood where they meet other fugitives, who have been there for months, constantly in fear of being discovered. Out of fear of the German army patrols, they do not dare to leave the forest, even as the food supplies run low.

The young Eva Heldmann has inherited a publishing house, which she is running in an exemplary fashion. However, she still has a co-heir, Stefan Gudewill, who is considered a good-for-nothing and who has been missing since he was 18 years old. With the help of a detective, Eva locates Stefan in a small town and goes to pay him off so she can run the publishing house alone. When she finally meets Stefan and gets to know him, she is convinced that he really is a good-for-nothing. But due to his rather swashbuckling style, she falls in love with him against her will. The two come together, but then split after a misunderstanding. Eva leaves, convinced she will never see him again. Yet one day, a new employee from the shipping department comes to her and Eva recognizes that it is Stefan, who wants to work his way up from the bottom to become a worthy partner.
A small, mountain town. The populace here has long lived off the artisanal production of axes. But due to a glut of cheap, factory goods, the business magnate Brugger is no longer able to sell his axes and he dies before a complete economic collapse. His daughter Anna wants to marry Thomas Volderauer, a friend of her father's, who wishes to once more bring work to the town by moving his metal working factory there. Thus Franz, the son of old Atzinger, has no chance with Anna; especially as his father implores Anna to marry Volderauer. Embittered, Franz leaves the town. In order to earn money, Franz ends up as a tourguide for wealthy tourists and notices that their ice picks aren't good for anything, except maybe cutting ice for their fancy cocktails. He realizes that the manufacture of high quality ice picks, for example, could be good business for his town. He therefore returns there and organizes resistance to the demolition of the town forge.
The fairies Fortuna and Amorosa make a bet with the devil, in the form of the evil spirit Lumpacivagabundus. They don't believe he will succeed in winning humanity over. To prove his skills, they choose three journeymen: the shoemaker Knierim, the tailor Zwirn, and the carpenter Leim. If Lumpacivagabundus succeeds in leading even one of the three journeymen astray, he will have won his bet. The devil manipulates a lottery in which the three journeymen win a fortune...
The river level rises, the dam can no longer hold back the floodwaters – it breaks. Panic erupts, everyone tries to save at least some of their belongings from the rising waters. Those who manage it flee to the farm of old dike captain Doorn. His sons, Peter and Heinrich, help wherever they can. In doing so, they save the local schoolteacher and his beautiful daughter, Renate, from certain death. Both men love Renate, but this rivalry is not the only reason the brothers become enemies. While Heinrich, a trained engineer, advocates for river regulation to prevent further dam breaches, Peter vehemently argues for reinforcing the dam. When old Doorn dies and Peter proves to be the sole heir, Heinrich leaves home.
The good-looking blond Iris is kidnapped by a gang of traffickers and shipped to Rio De Janeiro. There she is expected to fetch top prize from potential buyers of young women.
This is the war and everybody in Germany should beware : the enemy is listening. One family in particular had better be even more careful than the average citizen of the Reich : the Kettwigs. Indeed they own an armament factory and their engineers, technicians, workers and of course themselves belong to a highly sensitive sector. They are under the constant scrutiny of those who want to get hold of the secret weapons devised in the plant, notably of a wire which, when attached to a balloon, may become the most effective anti-aircraft ever. For sure, they should distrust everybody. Isn't Nolte, the waiter, an enemy agent? Should young Bernd Kettwig allow himself to be seduced by this pretty woman ? As for Bernd's secretary, is she right when she lets this handsome man woo her?
The printing worker Lena suffers a lot from the teasing of her colleagues, because no one really knows who the child she expects is from. The alleged father, sailor Ole Thomsen, is on his way. When he comes back, doubts also prevail over him, and he sits down. When Lena wants to take her own life, the doubters come to their senses and found a fund for the boy to be expected.
As the title "The Queen's Heart" suggests, this early German black and white version of Mary Queen of Scott's eventful reign and death focuses on her emotional perception rather lyrically, with some songs, mainly by her.
Hans Albers plays returning war veteran Hans Richter who has trouble finding work. With nowhere else to turn, Richter gets involved with black market activities. This so disgusts Richter's son, blind ex-soldier Edwin (Paul Edwin Roth), that the boy literally disowns his father. Hans eventually mends his ways, but not before several other devastating setbacks.
The story centers on the charismatic sea captain Käpt'n Bay-Bay, portrayed by Hans Albers, who on his wedding day shares tales of his seafaring exploits with his wedding guests after an unexpected delay in the ceremony. The narrative employs a framing device where the captain, waiting at a tavern near the church, recounts through flashbacks his previous romantic misadventures and adventurous encounters at sea, blending humor, music, and exotic locales. These retrospective stories highlight his roguish charm and the obstacles that have shaped his life, all while the present-day celebration unfolds.
