The violin virtuoso Ferdinand Lohner is lonely and depressed after the death of his wife. But then he gets to know the much younger Irene and forgets all about his dead wife, marrying the young tart soon after. Irene moves into the house in the mountains, where Ferdinand, his son Heinz and his former mother-in-law Mrs. Leuthoff live. The bitter Mrs. Leuthoff makes life difficult for Irene, since she had no way of preventing Ferdinand from re-marrying after her daughter bit the dust. When Ferdinand conveniently goes out on tour once again, Irene has to sit at home with the bitter woman. One day, Irene’s cousin Gustl comes on a visit and Mrs. Leuthoff takes the opportunity to “accidentally” let slip to Ferdinand, that his current wife is a whore. As if living with your current mother-in-law isn’t enough to deal with!

The story is one of the classic operetta stories with a young princess destined to marry a king whom her mother tries to enforce while the young woman tries to escape her fate.

The composer Hans Helmer can really count his happy blessings: he is married to a wonderful woman, who also happens to be a celebrated operetta star. But Hans is suffering from the success of his wife and is constantly in her shadow. He also doesn't want to profit from her reputation when he tries to get his play, "Husband of the Famous Singer" published. Hans wants to be recognized for his own achievements. So he decides to submit his latest composition under the name of his best friend, the painter Willi Kenter. The director is thrilled with the work, but there are some unforseen complications. Hans' wife Maria hears about the operetta and is likewise very impressed; but also sees through her husband's little deception. She tells him that she is determined to play a part in the performance of the work. That's something Hans wants to prevent at any price.

Pierre Pasqual has just about everything his heart desires: in his career as a commercial pilot, he is well known and successful; he has wealth and a beautiful wife. The only thing is, that because of his career, Pierre is frequently away and the thought constantly tortures him, that his wife is up to something when he’s not home. “Who’s kissing Madeleine?” is the question Pierre must have answered.

In the antique shop J.M. Mauritius, there’s astonishment when a young, beautiful woman, Gabriele Euler, inquires about an old fortress crest, which can be seen in the background on an old tapestry --- it’s, in fact, the same crest engraved on an old, silver jar belonging to Gabriele: a family heirloom. She discovers, that the crest is the landmark for Burg Uhlenfels. Determined to find out more about her allegedly noble roots, Gabriele takes off to explore Castle Uhlenfels … unaware it’s haunted.

Peter, Paul, and Heinz have been best friends since early childhood; the first two are treated almost like Heinz's own children by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Liebitz. One day, a terrible accident occurs during a regatta: Heinz falls into the water and drowns. Despite this horrific event, the bond between Mr. and Mrs. Liebitz and Paul and Peter only intensifies. The elder Liebitz owns a musical instrument manufacturing business, and since Heinz will no longer be able to take over the company as originally planned, Franz Liebitz comes up with the idea that Peter and Paul should run the business instead. The two young men receive training in instrument making, but they don't want to become dependent on him and decide to earn their living by repairing instruments and/or as music teachers.

The young fashion designer Brigitte Arend is not having any success with her work, and since she has also been given notice to leave her room, she is facing ruin. Even the man she loves, the composer Stefan Roland, makes her doubt herself, because he likes to devote himself to other women, and not without success. In her desperation, she takes a job as a maid for Director Forbach, where a big party is currently taking place.

Kathrin von Hagen runs an extremely successful guesthouse in the stylish Löwenberg Castle. Kathrin also has a passion that she pursues with dedication: writing. She would love to see her latest crime play on stage, but the publisher Thomas Brand, who is currently a guest in her hotel, doesn't think much of the work. Some of Kathrin's friends decide to help her by performing a key scene in the play on site and thereby prove to Brand that the play has dramatic potential. No sooner said than done: the castle's library is chosen as the performance venue and quietly decorated to create an atmospheric atmosphere...

After parting from her longtime fiancée after an argument, she tells her father, that she’s pregnant --- and by another man: the police prefect Roland von Gabriel, whom she met after an auto accident. Called in by her father to be lectured, Roland doesn’t seem to mind the idea of marrying Nixi, but she’s already taken to her heels and fled.

As the son of a fashion house owner in Zurich, Hans Haberland apparently can offer his lovers any article of clothing, for which they're willing to sell themselves. His current girl-toy Lizzie wants this fantastic, sky blue dress -- but it's that dress exactly, which his father has just sold to a business buddy in Berlin. Oh, the shortages and traumas of war one has to put up with!

Resolute Ellen takes over the operations of the Grand Hotel "Paradise" from her father and immediately goes into action to increase profits. The first thing she does is turn off the flow of money to a theatre her father was financially sponsoring. Then she throws the charming flirt Count Wetterstein out on his ass after not having paid his hotel bill for two weeks. The alleged count takes on a position as a waiter in the "Paradise" and as Ellen has, in the meantime, fallen for him, she puts him in a managerial position, where he can't so easily flirt with other women. But Wetterstein is being pursued both by the police and creditors and disappears in quick order once again.

Robert is almost the epitome of a head waiter: Politely and courteously, he informs guests about the goings on in the stock market as well as what’s going on in politics, the world of culture, and the economy. Now, Robert is in love with Lilo, the daughter of Hillmer, who owns a fashion salon, and wants to marry her. Lilo is all bananas for the idea. She doesn’t know what Robert does for a living; only that he does business with her father. The bananas turn sour, however, when she finds out he’s “just” a head waiter! She’ll never marry him; and like the cowardly superficial trash that she is, she asks her father to break the news to Robert.

The gifted painter Alexander Poschinger receives a financial windfall. His friends Paul and Sepp, both painters, too, aren't in the slightest bit surprise by his success, since he only paints rich women. These women come to Alexander, because whomever he paints looks pretty on the canvas. But valauble paintings from an earlier time show quite well what Alexander is capable of. In a shopping center, Alexander makes the acquaintanceship of a women, with whom he immediately falls in love. She, however, disappears --- and didn't even give him his name (ah, true, deep love). A short time later, he sees her again at a Fasching ball. She is wearing a golden mask, which practically hides her entire face. This supposedly unknown woman falls in love with Alexander and becomes his lover the next day.

The stories' setup: a bunch of passive weaklings being dominated by two strong and ambitious women who fight for the same man.
