Set in Paris (which looks more like Budapest), the story concerns a murder investigation conducted by one Judge Henri Tessier. The audience is led to believe that Robert Petrovich, estranged husband of Tessier's sweetheart Marion, is responsible for the murder.

Kata Juhász is the shrew in this updating of Shakespeare's play. Kata's wedding is scheduled but her groom deserts her over her whims. In order to prevent the guests from being disappointed, she hires a tramp from the banks of the Danube to play the role of the groom. The tramp, Chief Engineer Péter Szabó, doesn't bend to her caprices. This leads to confusion and resolution in the Shakespearian fashion.

So a private detective agency and the "culprit" himself, the photographer, who is, for understandable reasons, a little "forgetful", start investigating the beautiful lady.

Count Gedeon Boroghy would like to see his last two relatives, Peter and Eva, married, so that the family fortune can pass to their rightful heirs without dissipation. The Count would like to bring them together, so he announces his own death and stipulates in his will that the heirs must stay at the castle for a month, eat together and kiss each other goodbye. The young people, who have already fallen out during their journey, hatch a variety of plans to force the other to break the will and thus lose the inheritance. When it turns out that Uncle Gideon is alive and the will no longer stands between them, they reconcile and agree to comply with the old count's wishes even without an inheritance.

On 26th of August 1939 the Ocania1 steamboat leaves the New York harbour with the ex-spy Maria Holm on board. Now she is the owner of a dressmaker's showroom, but for just one last time is taking important documents to Europe for the sake of peace.

Pataky Elemér arrives in the capital as a victim in his niece's divorce case. Having to meet the lawyer dr. Orbói István is, however, an alibi in an effort to get away from his quarrelsome wife, and to have some fun at the same time. He takes the lawyer with him.

Our hero, Boldizsar Szabó, does not doubt what he is offering. There is a book entitled "How I Will Be Rich, the Idea Publishing Company" for a "great success". Well, if you have the right luck to sell your Boldizsár, you already have a high-ranking bookstore job. His good or bad fate brings him to the Counts of Nyulassy. But in vain, enthusiasm, if there is a lack of fitness. The Nyulassy family, wishing to maintain the semblance of wealth, completely devastates it. The Countess only takes his book and gets his money on a card, Count Fricie does a little more: steals and sells Boldizsár's car. Countess Dora even exceeds this.
