Tatort is a long-running German/Austrian/Swiss, crime television series set in various parts of these countries. The show is broadcast on the channels of ARD in Germany, ORF in Austria and SF1 in Switzerland.

Berlin in the 1920s. A dazzling place, but times are not only golden, they are marked by poverty and crime. Vicky arrives in the city, led by promises of a better life, she’s looking for a job. But as soon as she gets there, her hopes and dreams are met with a cold awakening. With no place to stay and nothing to her name, she hires on to work as a saleswoman at a newly-established, glamorous department store. But the founders are also fighting for survival, just like Vicky. Times are tough, and it’s about to get tougher.

Young detective Ria Larsen is faced with the question of how serial killer Wernicke, who is imprisoned in a psychiatric ward, instructs brutal murders on the Husum coast. The bodies in the dunes point to a copy killer. Lawyer Lea Jung has won a much-noticed process. Her client Nick Storm, accused of rape, was acquitted because Lena was able to prove the alleged victim Yvonne Schubert was not credible. After the trial, Nick begins courting Lea. She has reservations but is interested at the same time. Nick is a very attractive man. But Yvonne Schubert is also looking to be close to the lawyer. She desperately insists that she was right, accuses Lena of having ruined her life and urgently warns her not to make the same mistake she made: falling for Nick.

Childcare is a constant topic of discussion and argument between Nika and Tom. Until the seemingly perfect nanny enters their lives. But are their children safe with Manu? Nika meets the young, likeable woman by chance in the playground. When she spontaneously offers to be their nanny, Manu seems to the young couple like an angel fallen from heaven, improving their overburdened family life in no time at all. Designer Nika in particular gets on really well with the creative Manu, beyond all the children's issues. Tom is not quite so enthusiastic, he would like to keep the relationship on an employee basis, because Manu is increasingly intruding into their family life, spending the night with them and "standing in" for Nika at a family weekend.

Suddenly the Russian Galina reappears in her ex-boyfriend Tom's life and asks him to contact his sister, who heads the crisis team at the Foreign Office. Galina offers herself as a whistleblower to Germany after hackers specifically attacked the computer systems of the Berlin Central Hospital. She has the code that can thwart further attacks, but in return she demands money, asylum and inclusion in a witness protection program for herself and her young daughter.

Gräfenhausen near Pforzheim, on the morning of April 29, 1997: Harry Wörz is awaited by a large police force as he leaves his apartment and is immediately arrested. He is said to have visited the policewoman Silke, with whom he is still married but no longer lives together, the night before and choked her so hard with a scarf that she suffered serious injuries.
