Four stories, humorous, romantic or dramatic, are linked by a counterfeit gold sovereign. It is made by the honest engraver in the first story, seduced by the charms of a young widow, and it subsequently passes into the hands of a beggar and a prostitute, a wealthy miser and a newly married couple where the husband is a poor artist.

However, Antigone, who was betrothed to Creon's surviving son Haemon, defies Creon's orders and buries her brother. When Creon is reported of the attitude of Antigone, he sentences her to be placed in a tomb alive. Antigone hangs herself in the tomb and Haemon tries to kill his father first and then he kills himself with his sword...

He accepts the co-operation proposed by Carl - to become his agent - to supposedly trap the guerrillas. But he actually misleads the conquerors about blowing a munitions train. His fate is the same as the fate of every patriot who is sacrificed for his homeland.

A veteran general, living poorly but honestly with his wife and his daughter, is visited by his future son-in-law who informs him that he is going to immigrate to Australia. On the same day, his cousin Apostolos pays him a visit as well and tells him that the government intending to honor him has decided to construct his statue and place it at the small square in front of his house.

The film is based on real events and tells the story of a group of Greeks who successfully escape from the Boules camp and return to Greece. Boules was a town that took in Greek refugees from the Civil War of 1945-1949. The escape took place because the exiled leaders of the illegal Communist Party of Greece began to exterminate their former comrades who did not share the views of the clique of the party's new secretary general, Nikos Zachariadis. The atmosphere in the camp was unbearable in every respect.

Telemachus, an unhappy old man, still lives with his sister, whom he expects to restore so that he marries the woman he loves. In the end, he is persuaded by a friend to put an ad in the newspaper to find her bridegroom, without mentioning her real age and highlighting her dowry. Finally, two bridal candidates appear: A retired and a Greek-Argentine landowner...

A young hoodlum tries to separate himself from his gang, while at the same time taking on behalf of his boss the blackmail of a businessman's wife.

The last days of the historic siege of Messolonghi. The film depicts the whole situation that prevailed in the city after the Turkish siege for many months, and tells the courageous effort of its defenders who are attempting a heroic and desperate exodus.

Two childhood friends are steered apart by their parents

A popular and honest man, Dimitris (Dimitris Papamichael), who works at the Perama yards, sings at a local tavern in the evenings. One day, his revered brother proposes to break a villa, and to prove to him that these things do not need any special capacity, he accepts the challenge. The noise they do, however, awakens the daughter of the owner, Zoitsa (Zoe Laskari). The two invaders are surprise. Zoitsa, who understands that Dimitris is not a villain, asks her not to hand him over to the police and is listening. Shortly thereafter, the girl visits the owner of the shipyards in which Dimitris works. The two young men are reunited.
