On his return from America, András simply cannot find his place: he has lost his wife, friends and job, and he cannot even find his way back to his former great love. Eventually, as a surrogate father, he takes in a wild young girl (Zsuzsa Czinkóczi) and a particularly strong bond is formed between these two rootless people. Márta Mészáros’s remarkable movie starring Jan Nowicki and Anna Karina is about displacement, loneliness and attachment.

Legends circulate in the public consciousness about Kex, which existed from late 1968 to the autumn of 1971. For baby boomers, it represented freedom and spontaneity. The band rejected the world of Communist cultural policy with its uniqueness and refusal to conform, something in which the best of the artistic intelligentsia and political dissidents saw value. They attended their concerts, and the film recalls their experiences. At times, one feels as if they are watching a spy film parody, as one gains insight into the secret files containing reports from agents embedded within the audience.

The investigation of the melon affair, to remain undisclosed for thirty years, is led by Major Piroska Szabó, the secret girlfriend of Mr. Kálmán, the boss, with a charge against the policemen Lajos Endúros and Richard Wagner. Sitting on the terrace of their favourite snack bar, the two policemen, along with Sergeant-Major Badár, take an oath not to testify against each other, and to mislead the authorities by giving false evidence.

Young substitute teacher Rómeó Baradlay suddenly inherits homeroom duties for class 4C and struggles to keep order, only to develop feelings for one of his students.

After serving a prison sentence for a street fight, Csaba returns home to find his wife, Éva, now living with another man, Miklós. With nowhere else to go, Csaba is forced to share their small apartment, leading to constant friction and escalating provocations.
