"Ottamandaram" portrays a small family which consists of a fifteen year old Kala, her sister Neela and Neela’s husband Bharathan. Married for a long time, Neela and Bharathan still have no kids. Neela, driven by the ambition to raise a child, forcefully marries her sister off to Bharathan. Kala becomes pregnant but the things take a turn for the worse when Bharathan dies in an accident. Kala’s subsequent struggle to raise the child forms the core of the film. Based on a real story, Ottamandaram is scripted by renowned media person Ajay Muthana.
Madhavan, an eligible bachelor, is very protective of his five sisters. However, things take an ugly turn for Madhavan when his sisters turn against him and fail to understand his love for them.

While setting up a rope to fake the suicide, a woman (Shobhana) running from thugs who are chasing her, comes into his hotel room. At the same time the police do a raid of the hotel , and find the two of them. In order to avoid trouble Mukesh and Shobhana pretend in front of the police that they are lovers , who were about to commit suicide since there families don't support their marriage. The police takes them to the station and sets up a register marriage at the station. Mukesh and Shobhana are forced to go along with the setup to avoid more trouble. After they leave the station Shobhana disappears , and Mukesh tries looking for her. How they meet again through fate makes up rest of the story.
