Yaprak Dökümü is an award-winning Turkish television series based on the novel of the same name by Reşat Nuri Güntekin. The series premiered on 13 September 2005 on Kanal D, and endеd its fifth and final season on 29 December 2010, comprising 174 episodes overall. The show is set in Istanbul, Turkey, and it revolves around the fictional family Tekin, which their arrival in Istanbul tears their family apart, and transforms them in a way they can't imagine.

Three boys are having their higher education in Istanbul. In fact, they are messing around and dealing with radical politics, girls and gamble. However, the oldest discovers love, and the three realize it is time for change.

Macide is delighted with this offer and moves to Istanbul to live in Süleyman Bey's house. Süleyman Bey's daughter Sacide is uncomfortable with this situation. She and her friends mock Macide for being from the countryside. At that moment, Sacide's boyfriend, Vedat Süreyya, arrives. He also looks down on Macide like the others. However, things will soon take a turn for the worse.

The lives of Hacer, Ömer, Tayfur, Haydar, and Cevriye take a dramatic turn when they find a baby in the courtyard of a mosque. When Zeynep grows up and becomes a young woman, she falls in love with Murat, the son of Adil Bey, a businessman she meets at her high school graduation. Zeynep, who introduces herself to Murat as a wealthy person, receives an offer from him that fulfills her dreams. Thinking she cannot marry him because she lied, Zeynep begins to consider leaving Murat. Just then, Hacer, who works at a mansion, tells Zeynep that she can invite Murat and his family to the mansion on a day when the owner is not home. The entire team gathers at the house to present Murat and his family as wealthy. However, when the mansion's owners unexpectedly return home, everything goes awry.

The film is based on 'Fikrimin Ince Gulu', a novel by Adalet Agaoglu, which depicts a first generation gurbetci/guest-worker returning home. It covers his land journey in short bursts from Germany to the Turkey's west border - and extensively from thereon to his village close to Ankara - capital of Turkey. He begins his journey purchasing a second hand yellow Mercedes - possibly his first car - using his meager savings working as a laborer. Offering deep insight into the mind of a manual laborer Bayram (Ilyas Salman) making his first trip back home, resorting to flashbacks in highlighting Bayram's motivation and experiences from his childhood right up to the events leading to his first departure from Turkey to Germany.
