Young and innocent maid Elina is persuaded into forgetting her childhood sweetheart Uolevi, and to marry Klaus Kurki, a local nobleman with money and influence. It is the year 1915, and five Finnish men ski to Sweden via the Gulf of Bothnia to get military training in Germany. Among the men are Martti and Kalpa from the 27th Army Ranger Battalion. In the reserve, the troops spend their free time in a café called the Golden Anchor, owned by Sonja Strand. Sonja's captain serves in the Russian army, and Sonja has a relationship with Baron von Lichtenstein, who exploits Sonja who spies on Russia using Jew Isaac as her messenger.

Pastor Petrelius does not accept the marriage wishes of his young daughter Karoliina and Paavo Paavalinpoika. Paavo wants to prove his manhood to the pastor and enlists in the King's forces, but is wounded in the Battle of Pultava. On his return to Finland, he finds his village besieged by Cossack Captain Voronoff.

Directed by Kalle Kaarna and produced by Oy. Filmi Kotka, the documentary is a strongly charged propaganda film. It begins in the open fields of smoke "by the bleached bones of fallen clubmen" and presents the birthplaces of the Lapua movement with their monuments and key figures. The climax is the main celebration held in Helsinki's Senate Square on July 7, 1930, where the strongman of the Lapua movement, Vihtori Kosola, gives his speech.
