Monsieur Perrichon, a rich coachbuilder by profession, is an honest but vain member of the bourgeoisie who decides to take a pleasure trip in the company of his wife Caroline and his daughter Henrietta. The family, deciding on a train journey to the Swiss Alps, arrive at Gare de Lyon in Paris where they happen upon two young suitors, both with the same goal of marrying Henrietta. Over the course of the journey, the two men are involved in an honorable but fierce struggle for the young lady's hand in marriage.

On the Buttes Chaumont plateau, transformed into the Gare de Lyon, Monsieur Perrichon, who has all the makings of an honest bourgeois, sets off on a pleasure trip with his wife and his pretty daughter Henriette. He has no idea that his daughter's two official suitors will give this trip a fantastic turn.

On the day of Fadinard's wedding, his horse eats a lady's hat on a bush at the roadside, while the lady is hidden behind the bush with her lover Lieutenant Tavernier. In an elaborate sequence of complications, Fadinard tries to find a hat while keeping to his marriage schedule

A musical screen comedy based on the French play La Cagnotte (The Piggy Bank in English) by Eugène Marin Labiche. A group of provincial Bourgeois decide to spend savings they accumulated for a year of playing cards together on a memorable deed. After humorous strategizing and alliance forming, Leonida, the unmarried sister and Blanche, the engaged daughter, of Monsieur Champbourcy, entice the group to spend the money on what they imagine a luxurious journey to a capital city. A very memorable event indeed it was.
