An epic family saga set in the Russian Urals before, during and after the Second World War. The story is centered on the Morozov family - Aleksey, Stepan, Aliona and Varvara - two brothers and two sisters, with a multitude of complex relationships between them. Miraculously, they all survive the slaughter of World War 2, but not without learning some important lessons on the way, including the meaning of true love, that overcomes all hurdles and heals all wounds, and how to cope with grief, leading them ultimately to a long dreamed-of happiness.

The film begins in 1985 in a military garrison, where a fighter aviation regiment is stationed. Two tenth graders - the daughter of the deputy commander of the regiment, Zhenya Lugovaya, and the son of the waitress of the flight canteen, Vanka Kotov - are covered with a feeling of first mutual love. Harsh dramatic events separate the characters, their life paths diverge, and they lose each other for many, many years. Vanka Kotov becomes a test pilot, Zhenya Lugovaya becomes a military surgeon. One day, fate brings the heroes together again...

A seventeen-year-old nurse lives in a small provincial town, who is raised by a strict surgeon grandmother. One night, Lerka runs away from home and goes to Moscow in search of her mother. From that moment on, adventures begin in her life. The adventures are funny on the one hand, and instructive on the other. Arriving in Moscow, Lerka finds a very strange baby in her mother's house. It turns out that Mom was taken to the hospital, and six-year-old Deniska is none other than little Lerkin's brother. Deniska is a very unusual kid, smart beyond his years, but he doesn't talk at all. Two weeks spent in the capital, a difficult relationship with his brother, meeting new people completely change Lerkin's life.

Gleb is a golden youth boy, an idler living a lavish life. He believes he’s not obliged to comply with any rules. But one night during a street race he knocks down a man, and is about to go to prison. His wealthy and influential father has all the power to save his son from prison. But he wants Gleb to reconsider life values, and brings the young boy to a northern village far away from civilization.

34-year-old physicist-astronomer Ignat Halley, fascinated by the stars and work at the mountain observatory, flies to the capital to file for a divorce. In Moscow, under unusual circumstances, Ignat meets a mysterious girl Taisia Artemyev and meets her whole family: mother Yulia, sister Dusya and intelligent, eccentric grandmother Yanga Lvovna. This meeting turns everything upside down in the life of an astronomer. And on New Year's Eve, Ignat will have to make an important decision that will change not only his life, but also his new acquaintances.
