The routine of a group of brazilian teenagers living in Brasília, Brazil's capital. Their aspirations, dreams and illusions presented in a context of a country that was on the final years of a dictatorship back in the 1980s.

Film about an important episode in Brazilian History: the Araguaya guerrilla. In the 1970s, when Brazil was ruled by a military dictatorship, some left-wing militants and peasants took arms against the Army, in the Amazon. Right in the middle of the conflict, there stood a French priest who had come to the region in the 1960s, and got involved in the events leading to the rebellion.

Vicente, a tax collector, is sent to a distant region to defy the dominion of Melo, a powerful landowner. When Melo's henchmen burn down the collector's office building, the government retaliates by deploying soldiers, overseen by Carvalho, a hard-headed judge. Carvalho orders the soldiers to invade Melo's land, which prompts the start of a full-blown war.

Doctor Parafina lends a mysterious little box that, when opened, transports Lúcio and his family to the Sertão da Memória, a fantastic place inhabited by characters from children’s songs, such as Mulher Rendeira, Mestre André and Marinheiro Só. However, the presence of the children in the forgotten world of old songs revives hope and awakens, in all the inhabitants, the desire for them to stay inside the box forever.
