The movie adaptation based on the legend of Raden May Ayu. It follows the original tale rather closely, though a few variations of the legend do exist. The essence of each of the variations is more or less the same: Radin Mas Ayu is the baby daughter of Pangeran (brother of the Sultan of Java) and a court dancer; she is forced to go on exile to Temasek with his father after the Sultan disagrees with her parents' marriage and burns their house down, killing her mother. Radin Mas Ayu grows up to be a pious and filial daughter, but is despised out of jealousy by her stepmother. She eventually sacrifices herself as she shields her father from a murderous attack.
It tells the story about the adventures of Taj and his friend Mubarak in search of the Bakawali Flower to cure the eyes of the King who suddenly went blind when he saw Taj's face. He went through many trials and temptations during the adventure including from a charismatic witch (Princess Jenuh Hati). Finally he met the Bakawali Flower which can only be found in the forbidden garden belonging to Princess Saharazad which is strictly controlled by the fierce Jinn

The fairy tale is about two sisters, Bawang Merah and Bawang Putih. After their father dies, Bawang Merah and her mother, Labu, have to share the house with domineering Kundor and Bawang Putih. Bawang Merah has to endure more hardship when her mother dies. She is bullied, beaten and abused in every way imaginable by Kundor and Bawang Putih. Siti Zubaidah is based upon the 19th century poem 'Syair Siti Zubaidah Perang Cina'. It centers on Siti Zubaidah, the wife of Sultan Zainal Abidin, who is left defenseless after her husband is taken hostage by a Chinese empress. She eventually allies herself with Princess Rukia of Yunnan, who had fled her own palace under threats of sexual assault. Taking matters into their own hands, they adopt male identities and lead a military conquest across China to rescue the Sultan. Directed by B. N. Rao and starring Maria Menado, the Cathay production borrowed from both of its niches at the time: the film language and costume styles of Malay cinema and Chinese wuxia films, resulting in an imagined reality fusing both visual cultures. At the core of the myriad garbs, armour, accessories and makeup donned by the characters, the tale chronicles the adoption of transformative identities to overcome adversity, enact justice and revenge.
Karim (Abdullah Chik) and Khatijah (Rose Yatimah) are undergraduates at the University of Malaya pursuing degrees in Medicine and History respectively. They are young, progressive in their thinking, and very much in love with each other. Asun, a young man from the Dayak jungle tribe ventures out of the forest and gets lost. He is rescued by Malay villagers, and befriends one of their sons, Noor. Years go by, and the two of them remain friends. Noor, by now the head of his village, sets off on a long jungle trip with Asun. Unfortunately, they are attacked by Iban warriors, who capture Noor and take him to their village, where they intend to cut his head off during a sacrificial ritual.
