Hashimah Yon

"Anak Pontianak" aka "Son of Pontianak' in 1958 starring the Shaw studio's leading lady Hashimah Yon and its male heartthrob Jins Shamsuddin. This horror film also featured a host of supernatural beings,besides the Pontianak and her werewolf son there was also a Polong (in the film the creature was shown as a kind of Mr Hyde alter-ego of one of the characters) and a Hantu Ular (Snake Ghost).

The story tells us about a trishaw puller, Amran, and a rich young lady, Azizah. She fell in love with him but their relationship was not approved by her father, orang kaya Marzuki. Ghazali, a gangster entered the scenario when he befriended Marzuki after an accident and put up a false front when he realised Marzuki has a beautiful daughter. Marzuki, not knowing Ghazali's background, trusted him and decided to marry Azizah off to Ghazali. Azizah ran away and went to Amran's shed. Ghazali confronted them and Amran's mother was stabbed in the shoulder. When Marzuki found out the truth that Ghazali was a gangster, he called the wedding off but Ghazali threatened to kill and stole his money. Amran brought Azizah back to her home and managed to stop Ghazali from running away. Marzuki, realised that true beauty lies within and agreed to marry his daughter to Amran.

Set during the Sultan Era. Megat Terawis and Megat Sari are the two sons of Paduka Haji, a commoner, who's wife, Princess Kamariah is the younger sister of the Sultan of the country. Although, the Sultan had consented to the marriage, his younger brother Tengku Long who is the Prime Minister, resents their sister being married to a commoner and has nudged a secret grudge against Paduka Haji ever since.

The story tells us about a young prince called Suria Kencana who was cursed and turned into a cobra by his step mother. As a result, he became snake by day and human by night. The magic spell can only be broken by a necklace, Panca Delima, that is worn by a kind hearted girl called Teratai. Teratai has two other evil and greedy sisters. One of them got herself killed when she was too greedy in plucking the gold leaf from the magic tree. The other was envious when Suria Kencana fell for Teratai. She stole the magic necklace and allied herself with Suria's step mother, hoping to get a big reward from her. Did Teratai and Suria managed to break the curse?

'Sri Tanjong' tells the story of the plight of Tanjong and her younger brother Atan, who are orphaned after their mother passes away and are forced to move in with their stepfamily. They are despised upon by their stepmother who abuses them, making Tanjong handle all the household chores, and chastises Atan at every opportunity. Despite the maltreatment, Tanjong performs her tasks with diligence and prepares snacks for her brother to sell in the kampong, but she suffers the humiliation of a lecherous crook. Atan is eager to learn after watching a class in session teaching the Jawi alphabet, but is scolded for outsmarting his half-sibling. Tun Setia, a visitor from afar, sympathises with the waif siblings and desires to help them. He is determined to rid the kampong of crooks and pirates, and bring justice against the wicked.

Chaos is unleashed in several villages by an old demonic witch who rises from the dead. In a creepy hut filled with kemenyan incense smoke, an old witch is performing a ritual with a skull on a pedestal. The skull then transforms into a talking head that laughs often! “Aku tidak mahu mati! (I don’t want to die)” she cackles, and the head grants her wish.

A young man has fallen in love with a vampire, where he is insanely head over heels for her due to her undenying beauty. He has decided to nail behind her neck so her beauty remains forever and never change into a vampire again. They both got married and lived happily with their newborn named Mutiara. As the years passed by she inherited her mother's beauty not knowing her mother's pass history. She then fell in love with the Penghulu's son Guntur. But at the same time a man who is just known as Doktor is also fond of Mutiara. One day as Mutiara was combing her mother's hair she came across the nail in her head and pulled it out. To her surprise her mother turned into a vampire and ran away. On her wedding day with Guntur, Doktor had ordered the Gergasi to kidnapped her away. Will she ever be saved?

Film Kaseh Sayang is a a Malay film which was published in Malaysia in 1957. The film issued in the form of black and white film without color. After entrusting her baby girl Sukartini to the servant, Kartini leaves Singapore with her husband, Sudanto, to avoid the war. Halimah, the servant takes great care of the child despite her hardship and poverty. After the liberation of Singapore, Kartini returns to take her child back. Halimah is not willing to let go of Sukartini and runs away with her. She is caught eventually and sentenced to a year’s imprisonment. Though Sudanto and his wife win the child over, their hopes are shattered, as the child does not regard them as her parents.

Pak Belalang and his son who conspire to portray the latter as an astrologer in an attempt to help out fellow villagers in trouble. Convinced by his actions, the Penghulu (Mayor) brings him to the royal palace to help solve a robbery but the situation turns complicated when their lies began unravelling.

The movie tells us the story of Hassan who has great passion for music. Hassan and Ani fell in love and ran away to Singapore knowing that their marriage will never be approved by Ani's parents. The police was tipped off when Sazali and his gang committed burglary. Sazali was shot but managed to escape and seek shelter in his father's home. What did Hassan do?

A legendary folklore film. Religious leader Tun Jana Khatib and his 2 followers come to Singapore from Pasai to trade. However, due to the rivalry between the Temenggong and the King’s aide, Tun Jana Khatib is slandered. He's sentenced to death and the King’s aide sentenced to life imprisonment. One night, several fishermen are attacked and killed by swordfish. At the coast of Singapore, with his courtiers, the King is also attacked. The Temenggong orders that villagers be used as human shields against the attack. The young son of the King's aide, Hang Nadim, suggests that banana tree trunks be used instead. It works and in return, the King agrees to release his father. However, the sly Temenggong instigates the King against Hang Nadim and his father.

'Hantu Kubor' is the sequel to 'Hantu Jerangkong' (1957), and the story here continues from the earlier film. Following her extermination, Mak Hitam the witch comes back to life as a grave ghost haunting the village cemetery. She threatens to cause chaos if the newly-wed Musa does not comply with her demands. When Tok Penghulu (the village chief) and the villagers find themselves unable to match the supernatural prowess of Mak Hitam, they seek help from Tok Pawang (the shaman) who understands the genesis of Mak Hitam's occult power and knows a way to subdue her.

After meeting a fairy princess by a grand coincidence, the lives of two men have changed drastically. The hero has regained his youth while Toba has aged tremendously.
