Set in Czechoslovakia, the drama follows the lives of its characters against the backdrop of real historical events that shape their personal stories. To evoke period atmosphere, the series intersperses authentic clips from vintage Czechoslovak film newsreels, using their original commentaries or newly recorded historical voice-overs by Vladimír Fišer. A narrator, initially voiced by Vojtěch Kotek and later by Matěj Hádek, provides continuity and reflection, guiding viewers through changing times. Under the guidance of screenwriter Rudolf Merkner, each episode’s script weaves family and individual dramas into key moments of Czech and Slovak history: political shifts, cultural trends, and social transformations from the 1960s onward.

Croatia. A holiday destination for hundreds of thousands of Czech and Slovak tourists, who come here for the sea, mountains, monuments, entertainment, and relaxation. Because even in a holiday paradise, sometimes things go wrong. And sometimes there's murder... The story of the series takes place on the island of Hvar, where a central pair of Czech-Slovak detectives helps to solve crimes involving Czech and Slovak tourists. Michal and Ivana are like fire and water. While he is a funny, sarcastic detective from the "old school," she is a free-spirited, temperamental woman. Together, they must restore the disrupted harmony of the sunny island. The mixed local police force gets to investigate even the most serious crimes. The rule is clear. A Czech body, a Czech chief investigator. And vice versa.
Tereza is a former prima ballerina at the National Theater who ended her career as a professional dancer after an injury and moved with her husband Petr and seven-year-old daughter Maruška to an abandoned mill in the Broumov region, which she inherited from her grandmother. With dogged determination and limited financial resources, she is renovating the building to create a new home for her family. She earns extra money by running a physical education club at the local school.
Pavel may be in his forties, but he still hasn't fully matured. He lives with his mother and lacks the courage to do what would truly fulfill him in life. He only gets this when he meets his childhood sweetheart, Tereza, and spends an adventurous night with her. However, Tereza is not ready to leave her current life for someone who, according to her, is not a real man. So Pavel decides to become exactly that kind of guy. He signs up for a training camp in the Tatras led by Weisner, who teaches everything from chopping wood to seducing women. Will Pavlo manage to overcome himself and become the man Tereza longs for?
