Saigo Takamori, the hero of the Meiji Restoration, was born to a poor, low-ranking samurai family in the Satsuma domain (present day Kagoshima Prefecture). His simple honesty caught the attention of its charismatic feudal lord of Satsuma, Shimazu Nariakira. Nariakira’s assertion that the love of people is what will enrich and strengthen the nation captivated Saigo who took on Nariakira’s secret mission and eventually became a key person for Satsuma. Not a portrait of him survives today and much of his life is a mystery. He is a man who was twice exiled and thrice married. He overthrew the Tokugawa Shogunate with exceptional bravery and action. Although he accomplished the restoration, he lost his life in a fight with the new Meiji government.

Mano Reiji, a man who experienced a gruesome incident, is a forensic researcher at the Tokyo Metropolitan Police Department's Investigative Science Research Institute. Under the belief that "appraisal will result in the truth" and with his vast knowledge, Mano approaches cases from a view point that differs from others. On the other hand, Sawaguchi Nonna (Araki Yuko) is a rookie forensic researcher that begins working with the no nonsense Mano. They are forced to work together on a murder case.

Yoko, a sort of modern tomboy, almost by chance gets her sights set stubbornly on becoming a Cabin Attendant (CA), a type of woman the men are all fond of, but a role which is completely out of character for her. Although she also feels the work is not up her alley, Yoko starts to prepare for the entrance examination with vigor, exhibiting her inborn never-say-die spirit and miraculously passing the examination. Naively assuming that she would immediately become a cabin attendant upon passing the test, Yoko of course has stiff training awaiting her.

The 69th NHK Asadora Drama, based on Rei Nakanishi's novel, is about the Iwata family living in Ikeda, Osaka City between 1950s and 1960s. The story is told through the eyes of the youngest daughter, Fuyuko. The family runs a bakery. The mother, Teruko, is a very energetic woman who is determined to make her dreams come true. Responding to Teruko's expectations, the eldest daughter becomes a figure skater and the second daughter becomes a very famous professional singer. In contrast, Fuyuko finds her joy in bread making.

Ganbatte Ikimasshoi was a Japanese television drama for NTV about a girl who wants to start an all-girl rowing team. To do so she needs to find at least four other members. She is met with many challenges during each episode, e.g., finding enough members, bearing the weight of being captain, going through training, and experiencing some setbacks. With the help of her coach, childhood friend Sekino Hiroyuki, and the boys' rowing team, she and her team are able to overcome those obstacles. Ganbatte Ikimasshoi is a sports drama about hope, hard work, and perseverance.

"Kanjani no Shiwake Infinity" (Kanjani no Shiwake Eight) was a variety show that aired on TV Asahi from the early hours of April 7, 2011 (late night on the 6th) until March 21, 2015. It was commonly known as "Shiwake Infinity".
