Donyo Donev

The Three Fools is a series of 11 short animated satiric films created and directed by the Bulgarian cartoonist Donyo Donev. The first episode was released in 1970 and the last one in 1990. The screenplays are written by Donyo Donev, Anastas Pavlov, Georgi Chavdarov, Dimo Bolyarov and Georgi Dumanov. In the series are used the typical for Donev simplified lines, deformed speech and interjections as well as drum' and bagpipe' sounds. Ever since first episode' release, the films obtained wide popularity and critical acclaim. Each episode alone won at least one international award. In 1982, the satirical paper “The Three Fools”, named after the characters of the movie, was founded with Donyo Donev as editor-in-chief.

The houses of the villagers are suddenly invaded by countless snakes. What to do with the plague? A good idea: to lead them away with other creatures that eat snakes. But the solution to a problem sometimes leads to even greater problems...

A madhouse. Everyone can do whatever they want. One crawls, and the other walks on the ceiling. The third one hangs from the lampshade. The fourth one pops out of the nightstand like a cuckoo clock . . . Orderlies catch one of the patients. Doctors consider it normal. He began to march in the impersonal formation of normal people.

In a village, wolves threaten the herds of sheep. Shepherds kill animals. The clerk comes and shows them the Red List of Threatened Species. It turns out that wolves are on this list. The villagers begin to take care of the only surviving pair of wolves. They even protect them from sheep that have gone berserk and become bloodthirsty.

Three fools go for a drive... or at least try to.

On two hills, two fortresses are located opposite each other. Two enemy armies shoot arrows and cannons. At night, soldiers from one fortress dug a tunnel into another. They captured a nearby fortress. During this time, soldiers from another fortress captured the neighboring one by air. In the morning, it became clear that they had only exchanged fortresses. The war continues.

A building collapses and the authorities have to find the causer.

Big fish chases a small fish. One of them is separated from the group. But she's in danger. In the water, it is chased by a large fish, on land-by a cat, in the air-by an eagle. The fish returns to the water and goes straight into the big fish's open mouth. But it is at this moment that the big fish bites the fishing rod. A small fish is resting. But a powerful blow to the tail of a big fish will put an end to its joy.
