While investigating the horrifying death of her boyfriend, Mai Takano learns about a videotape haunted by the spirit of a disturbing girl named Sadako, which kills anyone who watches it exactly one week later. When her boyfriend’s son, Yoichi, starts to develop the same psychic abilities as Sadako, Takano must find a way to keep the boy and herself from becoming the next victims.

"Fuyu no Sakura" is described as a pure love story with similarities to the popular Korean drama "Winter Sonata" (titled "Fuyu no Sonata" in Japan). Kusanagi plays a gentle glass craftsman in Yamagata who has no experience in love. Imai plays an older housewife with a husband and daughter who goes on a trip alone to Yamagata, hoping to see sakura trees blooming in winter. She gets into an accident, but is saved by Kusanagi. He ends up tending to her, and the two are soon drawn to each other.

In lyrical switches between the present and the past, Taeko contemplates the arc of her life, and wonders if she has been true to the dreams of her childhood self.

Asakura Tetsuya is a man who leads a double life. By day, he is a mild-mannered and affable salaryman in the Mogi Corporation. Come night, he takes on the persona of a hardened and violent individual bent on exposing the shady dealings of his company. Tetsuya's brother was a former president of one of the Mogi subsidiaries, but committed suicide under mysterious circumstances after some company trouble. Miki Imai's first video release, "[passage]". It was released in October 1987 by the LaserDisc Corporation (later known as Pioneer LDC) one month after Imai's second album, "elfin", released. In order to promote the album, a few songs featured in the album are included in this video, which documents Imai's adventures in France as she meets new people, tries new things, and explores new places. The songs from elfin included in the video are: "elfin", "Club Lonely Hearts Exotica", "Pole Position", and "Omoidashita Dake". It also includes a lot of energetic instrumental tracks that are not included anywhere else.
