Naomi Kawashima

Mariko is a forensic scientist working at the Kyoto PD Crime Lab. Her credo is “science never lies” and she delves into the truth of the case with her colleagues with their specialized skills and knowledge in forensic medicine, physics, chemistry etc. Mariko’s steadfast belief in science makes her stand against conventional institutional ethics of the police department, diehard detectives averse to scientific investigation and sometimes even with her own colleagues, but she stays faithful to her belief in science and continues to pursue the truth.

The story follows Minamida Nozomi, the charming female protagonist whose company's performance deteriorates due to the collapse of the bubble economy and who is forced to quit her job as she is prevented from getting married and starting a family. However, after her younger brother is involved in a theft incident within her family, she decides to become a lawyer. She passed the difficult bar exam and faced the harsh reality of legal training in Fukushima.

Iguana Girl is a manga by Moto Hagio published in Petit Flower. It was adapted into a television drama in 1996. It is about a young girl, Rika, whose mother views her as being ugly, and favours her other daughter, Mami. Rika thinks of herself as ugly and as an iguana, but after her mother's death, realises that her mother was also an ugly iguana. Iguana Girl reflects Hagio's own relationship with her mother, and it took her "years to write this story". Hagio saw an iguana in a documentary on television and identified with it, feeling it was "lamenting its failure to become a human, just like me".

Yuko (Kanako Enomoto), always dressed in flashy, trend-setting fashion, looks carefree and bold at first glance. But in reality, she has very few female friends. A murder occurs at a party hosted by Dr. Aida's former students (mostly women), most of whom live in Kanagawa Prefecture. Dr. Aida is invited to the party and, at the request of his former students, decides to become involved in the case. Soon after, detectives from the local police department arrive (always accompanied by the chief of police), and a little later, Lieutenant Suda from the Fujisawa North Police Station (now the Yokohama Port Police Station) arrives to begin questioning the people involved (Dr. Aida secretly overhears this). The murders continue and the case becomes more and more confusing. Dr. Aida gets hints from the tools of the ancients that he has unearthed, and unravels the trick that was used to commit the crimes. The birth secrets of the people involved are the key to the case, and Dr. Aida (or Suda) always visits the obstetrics and gynecology clinic in the interview scene in the middle of the story.

A Proud "man of the house", Yamamura Kazuyuki is the bread winner in a society where men bring home the money. He is a tv commercial director and makes good money to support his wife and son. It isn't quite as easy as he keeps telling everyone, but that's okay since he is looking for a new job and should have one soon.It is a look at how society is changing with often times, hilarious results. Struggling to keep his head above water, he finds himself being tutored by his neighbor (even if he doesn't want to be), and at the same time building a friendship.Through trials and tribulations, he learns to respect his new role, while giving credit to the women (and men) who are the ones staying home and keeping home-life afloat.

This is a light-hearted, typical high-school "girl-has-crush-on-boy" type of drama. The main character, Otonashi Karen, was only used to gazing at her crush from a distance, until one day she misinterpreted his line while eavesdropping, turning her usual, timid self into a fancy "Barbie-doll" to attract his attention. The guy, of course, found her ridiculous and unbearable. Nevertheless, this drama traces the "fairy-tale-like" yet somehow sweet process of Karen's devotion to this guy. Each and every episode also shows how Karen's enthusiasm momentarily melts his heart, leaving him smiling with pure amusement, which indicates his growing fondness towards her.

The seventh movie of the series “Yakuza Ladies” focuses on a wife of a small Osaka family. She risks her life to protect her husband’s family and its members against much larger, more established organizations.
