Elbrus Tamayev, a guy from a working-class family, was brought up in the spirit of fundamental male principles: not to offend the weak, to be able to fight back and help those in need. During his school years, he makes a friend and a girlfriend. Elbrus gets a job on a dry cargo ship. His friend pulls off a drug scam. It is exposed, and Elbrus becomes the scapegoat in this case... He is sentenced to life imprisonment in a prison for especially dangerous criminals, from which it is impossible to escape. But the hero - now his name is none other than Graf Krestovsky - succeeds twenty years later. He returns to his homeland and begins to take revenge on those who treated him so cruelly.

The setting is the east shore of the Caspian Sea (today's Turkmenistan) where the Red Army soldier Fyodor Sukhov has been fighting the Civil War in Russian Asia for a number of years. After being hospitalised and then demobbed, he sets off home to join his wife, only to be caught up in a desert fight between a Red Army cavalry unit and Basmachi guerrillas. The cavalry unit commander, Rahimov, "convinces" Sukhov to help, temporarily, with the protection of abandoned women of the Basmachi guerrilla leader Abdullah's harem. Leaving a young Red Army soldier, Petrukha, to assist Sukhov with the task, Rahimov and his cavalry unit set out to pursue fleeing Abdullah.Sukhov and women from Abdullah's harem return to a nearby shore town. Soon, looking for a seaway across the border, Abdullah and his gang come to the same town...

The story is based on Konstantine Gamsakhurdia's novel and depicts the social and political changes taking place in Soviet Georgia in the 1930s through the line of the main characters: Tarash Emkhvari and Arzakan Zvambaya.

This musical is based on old Georgian vaudevilles and plays. The early 20th century. Old Tiflis is in confusion and turmoil. A mysterious fairy is helping the poor Pavle’s family: real wood is burning in his old, neglected fireplace, wherein a pot with meat would suddenly appear. The good fairy is impersonated by laundress Vardo who helps not only the poor Pavle, but other families in this quarter as well. Vardo is known to many people in the town, but no one ever suspected that she was capable of performing miracles. The film’s colorful folk melodies, merry songs and fiery dances leave no viewer indifferent. Starring in the leading role is the great Georgian actress Sofiko Chiaureli.
