NHK Kōhaku Uta-Gassen (NHK紅白歌合戦, "NHK Red and White Song Battle"), more commonly known simply as Kōhaku, is an annual New Year's Eve television special held on December 31 every year, and produced by Japanese public broadcaster NHK. It is broadcast live simultaneously on NHK General TV, BS4K, BS8K, and NHK radio (nationally) and internationally on NHK World Premium and some overseas (mainly cable) broadcasters who buy the program. The program divides the most popular music artists of the year into competing teams of red and white. The "red" team or "akagumi" (紅組) is composed of all female artists (or groups with female vocals), while the "white" team or "shirogumi" (白組) is all male (or groups with male vocals).

Koichi Domoto and Tsuyoshi Domoto entertain their guests by doing whatever their guests want to do.

A love story between a young man who has been forced to grow up too quickly, and a young woman with an ailment that has placed restrictions on her life. When he wrongly accuses people of a crime, he sends them a gift with a note "I'm sorry about the mistake".

Two teenage boys from starkly different backgrounds find themselves joined in a common search to discover how to do the right thing and find happiness in life. One boy, whose father is an alcoholic, works hard to care for his younger brother and sister, while the other enjoys the privileges of a wealthy family, but is starved for his father's love. Their friendship reflects the sadness, pain, and sometimes cruelty that can enter into the relationships between fathers and sons in today's society.

Toji, a manager of a food section in a medium-sized department store, has to put up with a tough boss that makes every day a real struggle. Sentaro hopes to turn his class into the best class in all of Japan. Meanwhile, Sentaro lives in a ramen shop owned by Choichiro Asakura (Chosuke Ikariya). Choichiro is a conservative person but kind. One day Choichiro's second daughter Motoko (Yuko Takeuchi) rides the subway and notices a rude female high school student. The girl sits near a pregnant and doesn't offer to give her seat to her. Motoko then asks the female student to her seat to the pregnant woman...

In a house in the outskirts of Tokyo, there lives a family of eight. Such a large family is rare these days, however not one of them is related by blood. They all lost a loved one in the same holiday accident. Moved by Shogo's suggestion that they all move in together, they have gathered in this house. Each has their own issues and it makes for the start of a tumultuous home life. Tsuyoshi Domoto stars as the passionate yet sentimental lead, Shogo. Diametrically opposed in character and thinking is Tomohiko (Yusuke Santamaria). The story centres on these two as the butt heads at every turn, and the eight grow closer together as a family. This is a human drama full of heart and mixed with laughs and tears depicting a group of deeply wounded people beginning to believe in tomorrow and live life more positively.

Abandoned by his mother and having had to fend for himself, Ryuu is one of many Japanese youths that have turned to a life of petty crime in order to survive in Japanese society. Life on the streets has given him a tough exterior, but it is his kind heart and his dislike for what he has become that wins over a local beauty and helps him take his first steps towards a better life. When an overzealous and less than ethical police inspector fingers Ryuu for a crime he didn't commit, he is resigned to accept his fate. However, help emerges from an unexpected source to give him the strength to fight for his freedom: a victim of one of his past crimes.
