In the late 70s, young Petra Grust begins teaching at the progressive Odenwald School. She is flattered by the trust placed in her by its widely respected headmaster Simon Pistorius. But gradually certain incidents at the boarding school begin to unsettle her. Petra then realizes that Pistorius is abusing Frank, a 13-year-old. When Frank is told that he has to spend school holidays with Pistorius, he tries to commit suicide. Petra tells Frank's father (the chairman of the school's governing body) but he believes Pistorius instead of his own son. Petra fails to convince people of the man's true nature. 30 years later, Frank goes to Petra, who has long since left the school and has stopped teaching altogether. He has never been able to speak about what happened but now, after the suicide of another pupil, he is no longer willing to remain silent. He wants Petra to bear witness at the school's forthcoming anniversary celebrations.

Since the separation of his wife Katja, the architect Florian only sees his two daughters Anna and Sophie every other weekend. While he is looking for a solution to intensify the contact with the children, the doctor Katja tries to get the double burden of work and maternity duty better under control. As she falls in love again and wants to emigrate to Sweden, there is a bitter dispute. Florian sees his rights disregarded as a father, Katja feels constrained by its new claims in their life planning. In court, both want to enforce their interests

Rieke Schmidt is the pastor of the Protestant congregation of Nazareth Church in Munich-Bogenhausen. The unconventional minister is fully absorbed in her job, which is especially hard on her 19-year-old daughter Leonie. She has traveled to Munich from Helsinki during the short semester break to spend some time with her mother, but once again she has her hands full. Especially as she has a new colleague, priest Toni Seidl, whose charm is causing her a lot of turmoil. She also has to take care of the many worries in her parish, especially her best friend Petra Keller, whose daughter Jessica, Rieke's godchild, has leukemia...

Karla works in a call center. She marries Zaid Yakin and has a happy marriage with him. Even the death of her father-in-law gives Karla no reason to doubt the perfection of her family, until one night she discovers that her husband and son Hamy have disappeared without a trace. Shortly afterwards, she is made privy to the ongoing investigation by officials from the Federal Intelligence Service. It seems that her husband has returned to his home country, Sudan, to plan a terrorist attack. Karla travels to Africa to look for her son disguised as a Muslim woman wearing a burka and finds out that Zaid has been lying to her from the start: his relatives are by no means destitute, but arms dealers. He himself is a "sleeper" and is supposed to sacrifice himself as a suicide bomber: his target is the Christmas market...

“Eine Almhütte für Zwei” tells an unusual love story: two adults who have remained mentally at the level of children are expecting children. While the happy couple - played by Tom Beck and Anna Drexler - are looking forward to their happy family, the environment makes it extremely difficult for them. Their relatives and advisors are not only concerned with the question of whether they will be able to bear their responsibility, but also with their personal interests.
