A man dies of cancer—and then wakes up, decades in the future, because his body was cryogenically preserved. Now he’s not only cured of cancer, but also rejuvenated. And his wife is also alive again, restored to health and youth by miraculous future technology. It’s a post-scarcity future, in which the biggest problem is learning how to start over when everything is new and different.

The story is set in the near future. In a post-USA province called Pacifica, Colonel Casper Mach rules with an iron fist. In a fairly lame attempt at repackaging himself as a beloved media icon, he also appears each morning as host of a TV show, "Breakfast With The Colonel." Jack Sorenson, a citizen of Pacifica Province, has never considered himself a revolutionary. But after a missed rent payment and similar grievous offenses, he's declared "lifestyle dysfunctional" and the state sets about fulfilling his unrealized potential. Jack resists. Before long he's a fugitive, pursued by the Colonel's brutal militia. Ultimately Jack encounters the Colonel himself.

Paris, 1962. A scientist formulates a serum that transforms him into a dog. It's only when he changes back into a human that his troubles begin.
