Biography

Shin Seong-il was a Korean actor (1937-2018). Born in occupied Korea, as Kang Shin-yeong, he attended Geonguk University, majoring in Korean Literature. He made his film debut in director Shin Sang-ok's Romance Papa in 1960 and appeared in more than 500 movies. He won several awards for best actor or best supporting actor for films such as Private Tutor (1963) and Moonlight Hunter (1987). In 1979, he became the chairman of the Korean Actors League and held the position for several consecutive terms. After a long career as an actor and having directed and even produced, Shin Sung-il retired from the film industry in favour of pursuing a career in politics. He was elected to the National Assembly.

Overseas student Zheng Yihua and her native Korean classmate Soo-ok are bosom friends. Suspecting appendicitis, Zheng is rushed to the hospital for an emergency operation performed by Lee Sang-hyun. Soo-ok falls head over heels for the surgeon, who ironically takes a fancy to his patient. The romance turns the friends into foes. An embittered Soo-ok ruins Zheng's reputation with malicious gossips intended for Zhang Zhen, Zheng's father's personal assistant and the daughter's fiancé during his business trip to Korea. The wary mother of Lee demands the girl's parting from his son. Answering her lover's plea, Zheng stays, quietly enduring the scorn rained down on her from the mother. Having had enough of slander and accusations, the foreigner returns home, vowing never to return. Even the blessing from Lee's father fails to change her mind. Lee arrives at the airport, looking forlornly over the runway where the plane takes off.

In a quite mountain temple Chim-hae follows a path of asceticism under the instruction of the High Priest, Pop-yon. One day, the high priest sends him on an errand to another mountain temple known as Sowondang. Sowondang was widely renowned for the beautiful Buddhist nun, Myo-hon who lived there. On Chi,-hae's way back he spots the delightful Myo-hon in the distance. From that moment he realizes her existence is overpowering to his. Days later, his craving is fulfilled when he gets to meet her in their mist at Sowondang. They are immediately attracted to each other in this wonderful first rendezvous. However, they foresee a grim future lying ahead. While returning to his temple, Chim-hae gets lost in the mist causing great concern and confusion among the other followers. Three days later Chim-hae awakes to find himself at home in the temple after having been rescued by the monk. Known as Mubul who had found him in the mountains.
