Biography
After studying film at INSAS in Brussels, Jean-Jacques Andrien made several short films, some of which were screened at Cannes. His first feature film, "Le fils d'Amr est mort!", won the Grand Prix at Locarno in 1975. His second feature film, "Le grand paysage d'Alexis Droeven" (1981), a poetic and dramatic film starring Nicole Garcia and Jerzy Radziwilowicz, tells the story of a young farmer questioning his future. He returned to this subject nearly thirty years later with his documentary "It Rained on the Great Landscape" (2012), having previously directed "Mémoires" in 1984 and "Australia", starring Fanny Ardant and Jeremy Irons, in 1988.
Known For

This uneven comedy of manners concerns a young film projectionist (Jerome Ange) who sets out to find a marriageable woman. He sets his sights on two women he has lived with for nearly ten years (Kristin Scott-Thomas and Sylvie Orcier). For some reason, the projectionist encourages one of the women to hire a private detective (Patrice Kerbrat) to monitor his romantic activities.
Lounge Chair

Following a stint as a WWII fighter pilot, Belgian-born Edouard falls in love with an Indonesian woman, has a daughter with her and immigrates to Australia, all without the knowledge of his family back home. Years later, his love has passed away, and he's raising his daughter on his own. When his brother calls seeking help with his failing wool-processing company, Edouard agrees to temporarily return home to aid him.

Pierre, a young man of Brussels, has lost his job. Unbeknowst to Barbara, the woman he lives with, he has become a pickpocket to survive. He works in partnership with a young Tunisian immigrant he meets every Sunday in an abandoned bus where they share the loot of the week. One day, Pierre finds his accomplice dead in their hiding place. Pierre suddenly realizes that he does not know much about his dead friend. Taking possession of his identity papers, Pierre decides to go to Tunisia to find out who his friend actually was.
