The series is named after a small part of Saltsjöbaden called Solsidan. It revolves around Alex and Anna who are expecting their first child and have just moved to Alex's childhood home in Saltsjöbaden, Stockholm County. Alex tries to get Anna to enjoy herself, and at the same time spend time with his childhood friend Fredde.

Baron Brusenhielm at castle Tröstehult in Skåne dislikes how his young son Karl Oscar is playing “mother and father” with the tenant’s daughter Ann-Marie, as he anticipates the beginning of a future misalliance. Years pass, and Karl Oscar is about to graduate high school. He pretends to study church history but reads in fact “The Seducer’s Diary” and thinks of Ann-Marie, who is now grown up into a woman.

Real, an immigrant soccer team in chaos recruits Olle, a Swedish coach, to create order. All of the players want to play center. Olle's right hand man is Sammi, father of a Kurd family with a son on the team. His daughter Bella has the impossible dream of becoming the goaltender. All of the men in Real are opposed to women on the soccer field. The Kurd culture demands that the patriarch of the family keeps the female in order or he loses face. At Olle's first match with Real the goalie leaves for a date. Olle has no one but Bella to put in the goal.

Bella, a young Kurdish woman having fled Iraq, dreams of freedom to live her own life. Olle, a middleaged Swedish man and soccer trainer, fights to be set free. Brought together by chance, both om them are forced to reassess their circumstances.
