Maki, a porter at the Sakura Hotel, finds a body in Room No. 2 and picks up a piece of paper on which is written "one-third of the key", also the part of a key. From a newspaper he learns that the dead man is an official who has been detained as a suspect in a bribery case involving 150,000,000 yen and that another suspect named Matsunaga is still in custody. Maki realizes that if he can obtain the other two-thirds of the key, he will be a multi-millionaire.

The operation is a success, but now Shohei himself learns that he has terminal cancer.
Daisuke Hamamura (Hiroshi Inuzuka), a driving instructor, is rather unremarkable and doesn't attract the attention of the women around him; the only one who shows interest is the landlord, Rie (Chieko Murata). One day, Daisuke finds a puppy and names it "Chibi." When he sleeps with Chibi in his arms, he inexplicably begins to dream of beautiful women, and soon he has pleasant dreams of beautiful women every night. Then, one day, Chibi runs away, and Daisuke takes time off work to search for him, but he can't find him anywhere.

Shinjiro Tanabe, a teacher at a junior high school in the downtown area of Tokyo, has two daughters, Mitsuko and Hitomi. Hitomi is the leader of her father's junior high school class and is working hard to prepare for the upcoming school trip and pamphlet. Tanabe is an old teacher who is often worried about financial difficulties and the future of Mitsuko, who is about to get married, but his family is bright with the cheerful Hitomi surrounding him. However, he finds himself in a difficult position when he sympathizes with his former student, the delinquent Akutsu, and uses the students' travel savings.
