1927. The place is Kalmar and the Grossman family home. A hungover manufacturer Julius Grossman and his wife Solveig are waiting at home for their daughter Betty to arrive by train from the capital. To their great surprise, she arrives in a car with her suitor Greger in tow. What's more, she seems to be full of contemporary trends and modern ideas about marriage, among other things. Her father Julius would rather see her marry his business partner Hilding and thus retain control of the company. Hilding is a dull, somewhat dreary, and slightly overage bachelor who suddenly becomes every woman's dream prince when a rumor begins to circulate that he had a relationship with the famous movie star Rita Ray in his youth.

Tausend für eine Nacht

This early Gainsborough film is truly a lost treasure and easily one of the most daring and risque films ever made. At least half a dozen different tales seem to be going on at once all finally meeting in the end. The story starts in the Lido hotel where our "Pickles" remarks upon the fact that everyone in the register is called Smith. Hes trying to chat up Mimi so shell split up with her boyfriend as her boyfriends uncle has other plans for his nephew - alas what no one knows is that he and Mimi have already been married for a few months on the sly!
A Warm Corner

Portrait photographer Lu Tiemann owns a white wire-haired terrier named "Stork." For Lu, the charming dog has a very specific purpose: to either jump into parked cars with men at the wheel, thereby attracting their attention, or to hide inside the car and emerge while it's moving – with the same result. When the driver then wants to get a closer look at the "crazy" dog, the following inscription can be read on his collar: "My name is Stork, owned by Lu Tiemann, Regentenstrasse 17." Many well-to-do gentlemen fall for this approach, such as a portly consul or a factory owner and privy councillor, next to whom "Stork" brazenly positions himself on the passenger seat.

Eine Nacht im Séparée

Because she has fallen in love with an unknown man, young princess Antoinette has fled to Berlin before her planned marriage with a prince. Incognito, she works for the fashion house Pappenheim, where salesman Egon Fürst falls for the young girl. Antoinette′s rigid uncle is sent to bring the royal runaway home, but he mistakes another mannequin for his niece, therefore taking the wrong girl to his castle in Baden-Baden. The whole Pappenheim company, including the princess, also goes to Baden-Baden for a fashion show, which means even more excitement and confusion.

Chester Binney, a wounded war veteran, erroneously believes he is carrying a silver plate in his head and must avoid all excitement. He returns to his hometown, and there his former employer, George Simmons, attempts to arrange a match between Chester (who is to inherit a fortune) and his daughter Ethel. Ethel, however, finds Chester unexciting as a lover; and to enliven the affair, the father invents a lurid past for the boy by displaying a signed photograph of Rita Renault, a famous movie star. Rita, accompanied by her jealous husband, Jack Shields, arrives in the town for a personal appearance. By chance, Jack discovers the photograph of Rita, presumably the property of Chester, and when he sees his wife kissing Chester, a running fight ensues.
