Directing
In a near future, the villages of a Sub-Saharan area have all been deserted. Mad and disabled people as well as child soldiers are the only ones who remain on those dry lands. In this survival atmosphere, relationships are harsh.
What would it be like to film the 6,852 islands of the Japanese archipelago? A refuge film in two parts. The first is a manifesto, a reflection of the catastrophe. The second gathers the film-islands, last traces before the disappearance.
Three months after the March 2011 disaster in Fukushima, TEPCO, the electric company operating the nuclear power plant, installed a livecam on the facilities. The images, on which days and minutes add up, are available online. Using them for sole visual material, such is the daring challenge Philippe Rouy has taken up in 4 bâtiments, face à la mer. The roofs of A86 North, exit 10 are above-ground platforms, words and silhouettes inhabit them. They're like neighborhood bar counters, areas to explore, workshops, film sets. Above the standard of living, facing the space, eclectic people take the air, have fun, confide. The places are calm, no need to speak loudly. They and they tell unique stories, many stories.
