While Adele is there, she unintentionally attracts the admiration of Mildred's sweetheart, aspiring playwright David Starke, when she helps him sell one of his plays to a Broadway producer. David goes to New York city to open the play, neglecting Mildred. On opening night Mildred visits Adele and finds her in an embrace with David; she upbraids Adele for stealing David's affection from her and returns to her home in Massachusetts. Realizing she has hurt her own daughter, Adele sacrifices her love for David, snubbing him with a cold shoulder, he soon returns to Mildred and they marry.

A former college football hero and his college sweetheart get married. Marital turmoil ensues as her criminal law practice soars while he cannot get his career as an architect off the ground. They separate, and the man begins making extra money by singing in a nightclub. When he is unjustly accused of murder, it is up to his estranged wife to defend him in court.

Bee Haven, a little country girl from Missouri, wins a Charleston contest and goes to New York to pursue a theatrical career, accompanied by Charlie Ross, a bucolic sheik. Her country attire merely amuses the stage managers, but Tom Gatesby, a backer, persuades Bozoni, a cabaret owner, to give her a job. She innocently accepts money from Bozoni to furnish a luxury apartment; and when disillusioned Bozoni cancels the payments for her furniture and new clothes, Bee tries to avoid the gown-collectors, but they retrieve her gown and fur coat. In desperation, she joins a revue chorus, doing a lingerie number that results in a fight with Valentia, the star of the show. Tom rescues Bee from her precarious position, and all ends happily.

While taking a morning workout, young prizefighter Danny Martin encounters Charlotte Hamilton in distress over her balky roadster. Martin wins his fight but is counted a loser by a crooked referee. Later, he is invited to a barbecue at Charlotte's home, but when John Hamilton, who strongly dislikes fighters, learns of Martin's profession, he shows him the door. Danny gives up his career for Charlotte and opens a health resort for obese millionaires. Hamilton and his prospective son-in-law, Penrod, arrive at the resort for treatment, and their indignation and disgust at the treatment provide comic complications. Learning that Danny and Charlotte have already eloped, Hamilton is at first furious, then resigns himself to their happiness.
