21 year-old Rémi leaves his small town in Quebec for the first time to go sell Christmas trees in New York City in order to pay off a debt that threatens his future. Dumped in the heart of the Bronx, he meets Laura, a deadpan French activist, who will be his colleague for the next month. Together they will meet the vibrant community around their street corner and learn to survive the absurd trials of Christmas tree sales.

Jean-Charles has an unusual relationship with his mother. He can't break free of her influence even when writing his master's thesis, made up of interviews with the several hundred men who have slept with her. Jean-Charles can identify -- he's one of them. Sarah is part of a strange, marginal ménage à trois with her contemporary Louis and the older Ji-Guy, she fills her days with petty crime. During the day she hangs around with Louis by motorways, where she deceives and robs innocent people offering a lift. One day things go wrong: a driver dies during a robbery attempt. Sarah can’t stop thinking about the dead man and goes looking for the wife he left behind. In her, she finally finds something of the security and friendship she had unconsciously been seeking for so long. But her alternative family doesn’t just let her go.

Roxy, a glam-rock star past his prime who has just made a pact with the Devil, goes through much emotional gear shifting when a dozen different writers and directors take control of his destiny and rewrite his life story as they see fit. In his predestined life, Roxy meets a vide variety of colourful characters: women he once loved but has trouble recognizing today; a crooked dealer who keeps leading him astray; a drag queen on the rebound; a failed playwright; a woman barkeep who's interested in Roxy; and, of course, Mephistopheles in all his disguises.
