According to a legend, the mansion's "blue room" is cursed -- everyone who has ever spent the night in that room has met with an untimely end. The three suitors of the heroine wager that each can survive a night in the forbidding blue room.

The plot centers on Ignaz Fischbein, a bullied employee at Strohbach's fashion house, who encounters misfortune at a fairground where he quarrels with Mizzi, who is awaiting her fiancé. A hypnotist named Brahmaputra, played by Albert Paulig, places the pair in a trance for his audience's amusement, causing them to believe they are a newlywed couple. Unable to reverse the hypnosis immediately, Ignaz and Mizzi head to the "Villa Waldfrieden" pension, where chaotic interactions unfold involving Strohbach, Mizzi's jealous fiancé Paul Kasulke (Paul Westermeier), and a retired Russian anarchist (Karl Huszar-Puffy)

Just for fun and to prove to the daughter of the castle lord how courageous they are, three young men agree to each spend one night in the "blue room“ of the castle. Years ago two people lost their lives in this room under most mysterious circumstances. Ever since, the door to the room has been locked. The youngest of the three men insists upon spending the first night in the blue room. At exact 1 a.m. a shot rings out...
