Edgar Kennedy and his family open a home decorating service, even though they have no clue what they are doing. The day of their first job, they make the mistake of going to the wrong house. The man of the house is not pleased with all the noise they are making and spends most of his time punching Edgar throughout the film.
Laurel plays Winchell McSweeney, whose fisherman parents forced him to leave home and make it on his own when they can no longer afford to keep supporting him. He takes a boat out of the village, but accidentally sets the ship on fire when he attempts to take a photograph of the passengers. The women end up on the island with McSweeney, and is constantly pursued by them, including one Amazon-size girl.
Virginia Craig will become super-wealthy and gain sole control of her factory, unless insubordinate schemers can trick her into marrying one of their clique. Unfortunately for them, she loves Monty, one of her employees. When the schemers' plot is discovered, a chase starts away from the factory and onto a runaway train.

Teddy thinks one of his friends will win the race and refuse the prize, but champion racer "Duke" Slade shows up and Teddy knows he will take the money. Some movie stars show up and, while using their own names, are definitely not playing "Self" in this fictional film.

Out of the blue, the couple gets a visit from his old friend, Roland Stone, bluff and portly. Roland befriends our newly-wed's wife, and this friendship deepens after the husband hires a new cook, the lovely Miss Gainsborough, who gives her boss a little too much friendly attention. That night, a prowler skulks, Miss Gainsborough faints, the newly-wed husband comes to her rescue, and she grabs him and holds on. His wife is offended and determines to leave with Roland. Is the marriage over?
Harry comes to the city as a hick, and immediately runs into a silk hatted slicker who relieves him of his valuables. Soon Harry gets suspicious of everybody, and thinks that every accident is a plot to ruin him.
