Jim Wyngate, an English aristocrat, comes to the American West under a cloud of suspicion for embezzlement actually committed by his cousin Lord Henry. In Wyoming, Wyngate runs afoul of cattle rustler Cash Hawkins by rescuing the Indian girl Naturich from Hawkins. Wyngate marries Naturich, but then learns that his cousin Lord Henry has been killed and has cleared his name before dying. As Wyngate has long loved Lady Diana, Lord Henry's wife, he is perplexed at his situation. But fate takes a hand and resolves matters as Wyngate could not have predicted.

Adventerous engineer Robert Clay, goes to a South American country on an assignment by rich American Ted Langham to open an iron mine. While Robert is there, the unscrupulous General Mendoza tries to convince him to divide the mine's assets between them and President Alvarez. Mendoza starts a revolution against Alvarez when he and Clay will not go along with the plan, but he eventually is defeated after a long battle. Clay then is able to pursue his relationship with Hope, Langham's daughter, who has accompanied her father to South America.

John Ashby and Allene Houston, two neighboring ranchers, are in love, but their parents' violent dispute over the route of the new X. Y. Z. Railroad eventually drives them apart. After Lander's death, How is exiled from the ranch, so he and Bess buy new land. One day, after he has been away, How returns to his cabin to see Bess and Craig embracing. How grants Bess her freedom after which she marries Craig and moves to New York. Some time later, How discovers oil on the land that he gave Bess, so he follows them to New York. There he finds that Craig has been unfaithful to Bess.
