This film could easily be a true story taken from contemporary Denmark. It is a typical Tuesday morning: stormy weather, slush, and bitter cold. Two young women are cycling to work. They make an unpleasant discovery: they find a dead man on a bench in the park.

Egon, a young man from Jutland living with relatives in Copenhagen, meets sensible young girl Ruth and falls in love. But Egon is involved with a gang of criminals, and when they assault a man they meet in a bar they are caught by the police. Egon is sent to a juvenile home, but can he stay out of trouble?

18-year-old Vibeke Henningsen is a student at a large modern school for girls and boys. She is an only child, and her parents, who are both self-employed, have not devoted the necessary time to Vibeke's upbringing. She was born with a combative and difficult character, and when she is demoted from 12th grade to 11th grade after a probationary period, she directs her hatred toward the school's most beloved teacher, Associate Professor Poulsen, whom she directly accuses of refusing to allow her to continue in 12th grade.

Theodor Nielsen lives a peaceful life with his adult daughter Eva. Then the weather vane on the nearby church tower starts squeaking every night. Theodor goes to the priest, who refers him to the Ministry of Ecclesiastical Affairs, which in turn refers him to the municipality, which in turn does nothing. Theodor takes advantage of his side job at the radio station and tells all the listeners about the annoying weather vane. Theodor becomes a folk hero and is encouraged to run for municipal office. He is elected but is heavily manipulated by his party colleagues. However, Eva helps him get back on track.

Rikki was devorced recently, and now find herself paying the bills on her own. And life is not cheap, especially when you have a young child to care for. To make ends meet, Rikki begins to frequent a bar where she can work as a prostitute.

The two alcoholics Rudolf and Bertil gets fired from their jobs. For Bertil the story ends happily. He quits drinking and takes a job on a ship. For Rudolph it is worse. He can't kick the booze.

"Naalen" is the title character in the film, a ruthless black market kingpin whose wake inevitably follows a series of other crimes. How "Naalen" got his strange nickname will not be revealed here, but it can be hinted that it has a close connection to the precious and rare commodity he deals in his "business": insulin.

Jacob and Else Svendsen are a happily married couple. He is a taxi driver and experiences the small and big events of the big city in a way that only a man behind the wheel of a taxi with the whole city as his workplace can. But a shadow hangs over their marriage – a shadow from the past. Else was married once before, but had to divorce because her former husband, Eigil Rasmussen, suffered from pathological jealousy.

The two leading actors form a team traveling round performing as a professional dancing couple who has difficulty making ends meet. Ebbe Rode is the dreamer and Bodil Kjer the down to earth realist. Bodil Kjer expands her image to encompass the disillusioned woman reflecting the hard life she has gone through. Ebbe Rodes disappointed optimism turn into violence with dramatic consequences.

A tale of wealthy youth in post-WWII Copenhagen.

Lau Lauritzen plays an ordinary architect, with a wife and a son. He gets accused for killing a 10-year old girl, and of course nobody doubts he's the one. Even his wife and his uncle has trouble believing him, but at least they don't tell him.

Sonja, 16, is a porn model, and her middle aged lover is obsessed with her. Sonja knows how to benefit from this, and as he spies on her, he finds out that there's more to her than he would expect.

A whirlwind romance between a Danish storeclerk and an American G.I. in Copenhagen takes them to a dance club base for prostitutes, whom she befriends and whose pimp he antagonizes.

On the idyllic Birkø lives Christian a parish executive officer. He is a brave and honest man, happily married to Martha, and this couple has a son called Theo and he will once take over the farm.

A beauty contest, in which the young Jonna, who works as a sales assistant in a dress shop, participates almost by chance, results in her being suddenly swept into the world of film and show business, because a film producer in attendance finds her type interesting and wants to try to launch her as a new name.
