After watching a concert by a fledgling rock band, renowned songwriter Marczak decides to promote only its vocalist, Sylwia. The girl decides to leave her bandmates, including her boyfriend, Janek. She is to perform at a festival in Gradów. Marczak's ex-wife, singer Majka Lenczewska, whom he drove to a nervous breakdown, wants to return to the stage. Marczak asks Majka's current husband to compose a song for Sylwia. He agrees on the condition that the songwriter will not help Majka make her comeback.

He was accused of shooting a militiaman and, despite the clear bias of the witnesses, he was convicted. Now the locals fear that his return will bring revenge for the false accusations. Zdzich hides in the forest. One day, he meets Romanek, the son of Jadźka, whose honor he once defended in a fight with others. Romanek cannot answer who his father is. Their meetings become more frequent and turn into friendship. Zdzich decides to come out of hiding and makes a show of attending church. He proposes to Jadźka and is accepted. He also explains the circumstances of his arrest to the locals. The next day, the forester is killed by a mysterious bullet. Zdzich was the last person seen with him. This causes unrest in the village.

Thirty-year-old nurse Teresa spends her days caring for elderly, dying people. Janusz, a young man she met at an amusement park, enters the life of this bitter and disillusioned woman. She finds a pile of love letters from the beginning of the century in the trash. By forging Teresa and Janusz's handwriting, she starts a love correspondence between them, rewriting fragments of other people's confessions.
