Biography
Harry Piel, born Heinrich Piel, was a prolific German actor, film director, screenwriter and film producer who was involved in over 150 films. In Berlin 1912 he created the Art Film Publishing House Company and made, as a director, screenwriter and producer, his first feature "Black Blood" (1912) with Curt Goetz in the lead role. Further films followed, based on adventure and action.

His Greatest Bluff
Prince Valona has a bit of trouble with his girlfriend Eveline (Olivia Fried), so he's quite open for the attraction of a young lady he meets by chance (Valerie Boothby). He doesn't know, however, that this lady is a detective who follows the con-man Carlo Moreno, and as the prince and the criminal look alike, she mistakes the prince for the criminal. The real Moreno isn't far away, though, and he first deprives the prince of his train ticket and then also takes on his identity in order to steal a pearl necklace from Eveline.
Him or Me
A Harry Piel adventure in the circus milieu: the famous artist Harry trains with the young Hella Stoll, whom he has been raising after the accidental death of her parents. In the interim, now grown up Hella has secretly fallen in love with Harry, but, for the moment, he only has eyes for the seductive Vera Leander. Only a serious accident, which has almost cost Harry his life, brings him back to his senses. Unhappy Hella, however, has already left the circus. Searching for her, Harry has to battle a wild elephant and bring a criminal to justice. But finally, he finds Hella and can admit to his love for her.

Behind a waterfall, he discovers the hidden gate to Ravello's castle, where the fiercest of battles now break out between the two and Harry finds himself confronted with a staircase that has been electrified and, once again, with the deadly robot.

Filming began during WWII in Germany, but production was stopped because story showed Third Reich police and military having problems coping with an elephant stampede; after the War, it got completed by its originator, and exported to the US with English dubbed, while removing all references to its 1940s German origins!
