Vienna, 1826. The penniless composer Franz Schubert lives with friends in the house of court glazier Tschöll and his wife. Because of their three beautiful daughters, Hederl, Haiderl, and Hannerl, the property is called the "Three Girls' House." Hederl and Haiderl celebrate a double wedding with the gentlemen, master saddler Bruneder and postmaster Binder. Due to an intrigue by soprano Lucia Grisi, Hannerl, with whom Schubert is in love but dares not reveal herself, turns away from him and marries singer Franz von Schober. Schubert is left with nothing but music.

The young heartbreaker Thomas Laurends, son of a wealthy Hamburg family, is sent to Hungary to buy horses for his father's stud farm. This comes in very handy for Thomas. It allows him to escape his clingy girlfriend Karin for a while. However, his stay is complicated when Karin follows him to the Puszta, but Thomas has fallen in love with the passionate Tery in the meantime.

The kind-hearted but slightly awkward Dr. Eduard Frank is transferred to a girls' boarding school in Carinthia. He soon finds out that his upper class consists of a bunch of cheeky rebels led by the bright Princess Margret. With their pranks, the girls bring poor Dr. Frank to the brink of despair. He cannot expect any help from the spinsters' teaching staff. The only one that Dr. Frank keeps at the boarding school is the courageous sports teacher Angelika. When Margret notices this sympathy, she fakes a fiery love exchange between the two...
