A dramatization of a wedding in 16th-century Russia, between members of two prominent boyar families (based on paintings by Konstantin Makovskii): Three matchmakers first visit the family of the prospective bride, and then do the same with the prospective bridegroom's family. Later, as the time of the wedding draws near, the bride is dressed with great formality and prepared for the ceremony, as the guests get ready to celebrate the upcoming wedding.

Biography of a village boy who got into the city. Having settled down as a sex worker in a tavern, the hero falls in love with a dressmaker - and leaves her as soon as she becomes a mother. Then he meets with the owner of the tavern, robs her and after a series of revels goes to prison. Meanwhile, a woman abandoned by him decides to commit suicide. She is saved from death by a switchman, who soon marries her. Here, after a few years, the hero who returned from hard labor ends up and, for the sake of the happiness of his own daughter, decides to leave the owners of this quiet monastery alone.

A young engineer falls in love with the Russian countess Tatiana. Their relationship describes the turbulent times of Russia, when it entered the war and later the Revolution. In addition, the monk Rasputin has an important place in the story.
A satire on the ways of the aristocracy. After the revolution, the bourgeois Nedopluev loses his appetite and sleep. Neither medicine nor the regimens prescribed by the doctor help him. He is drafted to the labor front. Donning on a robe over a house robe, he goes to work. Together with other bourgeois, he has to haul manure and load stones. The next time, Nedoplyuev puts on a workman’s overalls. Very soon he is cured of his ailment, becomes healthy and energetic, eats enough for three and smokes only makhorka. Seeing that his wife has lost her appetite, Nedoplyuev makes her chop wood. The film ends with the slogan: "The ills of the bourgeoisie will vanish with Soviet medicine". An incomplete version of the film is housed in the Russian State Film Archive.
