The film is based on the story "Hunter's Smiles" by writer Ostap Vishnya. Once a year, it would seem, normal, even very respectable people are turning into children who have received a long-awaited toy, or to some kind of "barons of münchhausen". Famous singers, famous surgeons, pensioners, peaceful accountants - all fall into childhood: they store up with waders, dry gunpowder, clean hunting rifles. And from their conversations trembling takes: one tells how he hunted immediately after two bears, the second "sewers" he put like rabbits, the third one shot ten ducks "shot" ... This all means that the hunting season has come!

In the 1930s, during Collectivization, we follow Alexandra Sokolova, who having joined a kolkhoz, is promoted by the Party to the management of the farm: she becomes chairman of the kolkhoz, courageously coping with the difficulties of collectivization, the distrust of some fellow villagers, and family conflict.

About the life and heroic death of the old Bolshevik-Lugansk resident, participant in the civil war, Aleksandr Yakovlevich Parkhomenko. In 1918, capturing Ukraine, the German occupiers sought to use the Haidamaks, the White Guards and the Greens in their struggle. By order of Voroshilov, Aleksandr Parkhomenko from Lugansk arrives in Tsaritsyn. At the same time, the Germans launched an active offensive. The "red" battalions are poorly armed, however, Parkhomenko manages to raise them to the attack and put the enemy to flight.

Heroes of Shipka was the first solo effort for Soviet director Sergei Vasilyev, who had previously collaborated with his late brother Georgi. The film is set in 1887 during the pivotal battle between the Russians and the Turks at the Shipka Pass. Stressing the solidarity of the Soviet states, tribute is paid to the courageous Bulgarian volunteers who helped the Russians fend off their mutual enemy.

Civil war. Polish interventionists approach Berezina. The Red Army temporarily leaves Belarusian lands. Partisan detachments are organized, one of which is led by Bolshevik Stepan. His brother, who is in collusion with Polish spy Kapusta, is also in this detachment. Yanko manages to warn the headquarters about the movement of the White Poles, and the partisans are forced to retreat through impassable swamps. They manage to escape and join the Red Army, which occupies Minsk on July 11.
