Mathachan, a wealthy man, falls in love with Maaya, a woman who arrives from Malaysia, much to his bedridden wife's grief

The comedy film deals with the small family of Unnithan & Ammini Kutty and their two daughters Parvathi and Sarala. Unnithan (Nazir) is a quiet frugal person while Ammini (Lekshmi) is more flamboyant and excessively proud of her family background. This leads to interesting and humorous situations which is the crux of the movie.

The film was in production from 1985 and was stalled due to financial crisis faced by the producer Sajan Vargeese. The film is a sequel to 1964 film Thacholi Othenan.
